hopefully new incentives will sway people to buy a car. didnt look up any trucks.

 

flex: 2500 rc cash

 

2009 focus: 2000 rc cash and 500 bc cash

Just knowing the Honda Fit, starts at $15,200, and is considered a "B' Class vehicle, the Focus is a downright bargain for what it has to offer in comparison. Damn do I hate the face on the Focus, but between them, I would choose the Focus, then maybe hide it in black or silver to hide the fugly stretched Joan Rivers face it has on it.

Get ready, the 'B' class Fiesta will probably start around $15k. This isn't 1985, everything costs more nowadays. The Focus and every other automobile is no exception. I just hate when people mouth off about the Focus or any other vehicle for that matter, being overpriced. They are priced similary to the same class competitors offering no matter which vehicle you are comparing.

Depends on what your getting for your money...

 

Honda Fit, a "B' sized vehicle with 107HP for $14,550 or

Ford Focus "C" sized vehicle with 140HP for $14,950 and slap a $2500 rebate.

 

If the word "overpriced" is insensitive to use, I think we can say the Focus is a damn right bargain. :)

Gotta laugh at that. Wait until the C1 Focus arrives and all the people whining about "no Euro Focus" for the last 3 years get to whine about the "Euro-sized" pricetag that goes with it.

 

In 1993 a decently equipped Tempo/Topaz or Escort would cost you $15G; anything under that had manual window cranks, no airbags, no air conditioning and a manual transmission. The fact that you can buy the equivalent car 15 years later with automatic, air, ABS, front and side airbags and power everything (do we even have manual windows on anything any more?) for less than $3000 more than that is downright criminal.

 

Milk, bread, pop, furniture, houses -- everything's nearly doubled in price in the last 15 years, people expect to still buy a car for what they did in 1980. Sheesh.

One thing though. Aren't the general purchasing habits of Europeans different than ours in North America? Cars may be more expensive, but I think they keep them for a lot longer than we do before buying a replacement.

Precisely! My Dad use to buy nothing but Escorts with manual trannies and power nothing, not even door locks! The same adjusted price will get you a Focus with power windows, locks, remote entry, ABS, traction control, moonroof, ATX, 80 more horsepower, 2 extra doors, and SYNC! Not to mention interior materials better than fabric covered cardboard! I kid you not, the 1992 escorts had interior door panels with particle wood board covered in cloth! Oh, the humanity! Those cars did not hold up well, at least the coach work. After 3 years, the mechanicals were fine but the interior went to hell (bad speakers, burned out lights, rattles, bad light switches, etc... The car was essentially junk after 3 years of daily use. The new Focus is a fantastic vehicle for the money! Dad is looking next week with all of these rebates and he has his eye on a Focus or Fusion I4 (about to step out of the gas hogging Ranger). I'm going to post some picks of the Fusion he's eying to get feedback.

 

Anyway, the Focus is a great car that will get even better in a few years.

That ended when leasing died...

 

And that's why so much marketshare evaporated (not because of leasing alone).

 

It's amazing how a market could sustain nearly 18million vehicles a year is looking at 11 Million annual sales in the next few years. That is some huge declines!

People are not driving as much, thus less road wear and tear on the vehicle. Where I live, some of the roads look like the 3rd armored division used them everday, thus the suspension, wheels, and tires gets the shit knocked out of em. Less driving means the suspension will be around in 5 years. So if I am the average Joe sixpack, I think more people will have the same cars in 5 years.

 

Also hard to make a major purchase when you have no idea if you will be employed long enough to rebuild the bank account after the purchase. Too much loss in value as well, which as long as incentives and 0% financing are there, resale value is gonna be worthless. Since people do hold off now to buy, the rebates will always be there, minus the dinks that buy foriegn, but thats a whole other topic.

 

I believe it all boils down to people only paying $X for a Ford. How much is a Fusion percieved pricewise compared to a Camry? Why would I pay $40K for a 273 hp V6 Lincoln MKS, when I could have a Mazda 6 for $27K with the same 272 hp V6? Is the Lincoln MKS worth $13K more than the Mazda 6? I think you know my answer.

Granted it was end of year but in '93 Ford had a "9995" promo for most escorts- wagon, 4 door, 5 door, 2 door hatch. While manual trans, did have air and could have power locks/windows for ~ 800 at the time. And in '93 there were NO airbags in Escorts- had to wait 'till '94. Don't remember about ABS availability.

 

I bought a '93 wagon for $9300 plus tax. That piece-o-crap car only went 217k before I sold it at 4.5 years (grin)- and outside of normal maintenance I did have to replace a battery at ~ 4 years.
