MKT caught in the wild

note to ford...stop damn well teasing us with sexy headlights on the concepts ( Jag XF, Mks, now this ) then burdening a design with mainstream clumsiness...dash looks gorgeous, still not sure about that CX7 kickup, but overall 8 1/2 out of 10....Fords on a bit of a roll lately...I just feel they need to take that last step....

MUCH better looking than the concept. Interior is kinda plain no?

HUH?

No tooled door pulls, no Star-trek center stack, No full length windshield to 2nd. row seating, No (4) Melamie and chrome captain chairs, no pronounced bustleback rear end, no rear-seating foot stools/ ottoman's. Possibly no generation 3.0 rear DVD player drop down, no Separate and raising rear floor load dividers.

And lets let the whining begin now, NO HID lighting.

Actually I never expected to see those items myself. That thing will look huge in real life, but they insist on calling it a 3 row CUV.

Well, if its interior is laid out anything like the Flex's I would say it's premature to say that the 2nd row won't see the "foot stools", as a similar setup is already found in the Flex. I think it's too early to say anything about HIDs also. I doubt they will be standard, but seeing as they are available on the MKZ now ('10 anyway), I see no reason they wouldn't be optional on this also.

It doesn't really look very large either. Look at the last picture of it next to the MKX.

im not whining. So far i like it, and i thought the concept car was hideous. im not comparing the concept interior to the production model interior, im comparing the production interior to the other good looking interiors Ford has been doing lately.

Settle down Beavis.

Biggest question is, will it sell a worth of damn? The Flex hasn't been doing that well itself and I really wonder how big the market is for a 40K+ CUV like this

Plus the T in MKT Looks retarted IMO

Now with that said, it looks like its pretty well done, but I'm not getting a warm and fuzzy on the market for it. But then again the market does blow chunks

:) no problem. As I said I didn't expect those thing's to make it to market. The further I studied that concept the more I lusted for it, I wish they would just do what can be done for production in those concepts. I really wish it could have come out like it looked, but I'd figure that would be $100K or more/ea.

All in all, with the market as it is, Ford is playing a risky game with a luxury line. Most will discount a Lincoln as luxury. Did Lincoln ever truly embody a 'luxury' car? I don't know, it use to be just Caddy vs. Lincoln. Maybach set the bar to high!

Did Lincoln embody a 'luxury car'?

In the US from the mid 50s to the mid 70s when MBs were hard to find.

Ford didn't do the 'downsize' right with Lincoln & luxury. The MKVII was a beautiful car, but not particularly luxurious. The Town Car was luxurious, but as the 80s went on it became more and more antiquated compared to MB & BMW.

I like it, they did a good job with it. I don't mind the kink in the C-pillar window as much as I did before. And I wish they'd do something a bit more interesting with the EcoBoost badge, like what they had for the TwinForce logo.

The interior looks good, although I agree that the passenger side looks a bit plain, but it may be the picture angle as RJ said.

I wonder if the material on the center stack is production - it looks strange to me. Also, I hope they'll put a piece of wood or something on the steering wheel to dress it up a bit.

I'm definitely old skool. I consider that I was finally able to step into a Lincoln. I have an MKX and wouldn't consider an Edge, I just like what I see in the Lincoln. It may not be the best Luxury vehicle out there, but it works for me. The sedans are sharp. It would break my heart if Lincoln and for that matter Ford were no more. It's funny what little things make a difference. Just taillights for example. The design and cost have to be very close to one another, but it's in the execution of them.

It looks very sharp, although I'm REALLY surprised they retained the concept's rear-end look. To tell you the truth, I was hoping they would have brought it down to Earth a little more in the rear, I like a nice tall bumper like the MKX.

Overall, it's not a car for me, but I hope to God its a success just like the MKS. I probably would not be interested in moving up to an MKT, the MKX fits my personal preference much better.

The MKS rear suits the car's design quite well, although I do prefer the full-width look, particularly at night. The MKX is a real standout at night, something I feel is an important safety feature. I feel reassured that I'm highly visible at night.

The interior looks great, and I'm also discovering that it's best to have those controls lower on the dash where your arm is resting and leveraged. The more I use cars with hig dash controls, the less ergonomic I find them. So when I see cars like the LaCrosse with the Nissan/Infiniti like controls, the more I question the design ergonomics.

Any body notice the paddle shifters on the steering column.

I did, but I figured all of you did as well along with the fact that it's EcoBoost, that's why I didn't mention it. I do think they could make them look a little better though (better materials).

The only over-the-top negative comment there (out of 3 pages!) was by somebody named "Matt." Coincidence?

I like the interior. I think it would look awesome with the sweeping door pulls from the new MKZ though...
