:hysterical:

Yes, you got it.

As I said, it was one of the magazine's more bizarre choices. An interesting car, to be sure, but I doubt that most Americans in 1972 ever even saw one in real life.

It did, however, make a nice Matchbox Superfast model.

Well, it was 1972 so there's not telling what kind of mind-altering drugs they were using...

My Bad. My memory must be going. I could have sworn that the 72 Montego had won one of the major automotive awards.

The Automotive press responded well to the all new Torino, and it received many positive reviews. In addition, Consumer Guide selected the Torino as a "Best Buy" for 1972.

An OK movie.

A lot of people liked the movie I see. Went and saw it with my movie buddy and we were not impressed.

Clint at ~80 years old is just not that threatening anymore and he sure as heck ain't the old gun slinger. But that is not review pro or con.

The lines in the movie were boring, and slow in coming. I wanted to speak the lines for them. The Asian actors were particularly poor actors. The gang interactions were lame. They should have watched some Sopranos or The Wire for some gang info.

Would not spend good money to see it on the big screen. Rental IMO.

The GT sure looked good in it though.

Peace and Blessings

I saw Gran Torino yesturday and loved it. Some of the secondary acting was abysmal (which if probably why some people hated it), but there's only a couple scenes with only crappy actors, and Eastwood more than makes up for it. Seeing it on the big screen was worth it for the closeups of Clint's face and to hear the audience laughing cracking up at each of Walt's insults.

And it made me happy that I could drive away from the theater in my Ford Fastback.

Uncle had one in new Zealand...car was awesome and WAY ahead of its time...used to love watch it raise and lower itself when either stopped or started.....LOVED that car...

I just did a little research on the SM. Lots of technical innovation but it also required special maintenance by Citroen and Maserati (to keep the engine in tune). They sold less than 13K during its 5 year run. I'm sure the tech was cool but it sounds like ownership was a pain.

Wait wait...Crown Victoria, and Grand Marquis...Yeah, I think those are currently some of the worst names in the industry. Who thought of "Crown Victoria", like why are we paying homage to foreign dead people from century's ago, might as well call it the "Queen Nefertiti" Urrrr.....

Crown Victoria was a name resurected from the mid 50s. GM had come out with 2 door hardtops at that time, and that style was a hit. Ford did not have one, and would not for a few years, so they had to come up with something. They took their top of the line 2 door sedan, which in Ford parlance was the Victoria, and dolled it up. A shiny band of trim went up the door pillars and over the roof. It reminded someone of a crown, hence the Crown Victoria, a new top of the line model.

Back in the 70s/80s Ford wanted a name for the top model of the full size LTD, Hey!, recycle Crown Victoria.

Ford had used the Victoria designation for 2 door sedans for years, as there was a Model A Victoria. The terminology goes way back, predating cars. Victorias, Stanhopes, Coupes, and so on were once common terms.

I watched the movie after hearing all the award hype, and must say I was very disappointed. I thought Eastwood 's acting was decent, however I wasn't a fan of his overly raspy voice. My biggest complaint about the film was with the supporting actors, In my opinion they were brutally bad. In fact the supporting actors were so bad, I never could get into the storyline. I must say, I didn't find out until a couple days after I saw the Film, that Eastwood specifically picked non-actors for the supporting cast. I guess I understand what he was trying to do, but in my opinion it just didn't work.

All in all I'd say it was just an average movie, not terrible but not good.
