This was just posted on the Local 249 Website, looks like we are going to get retirement packages to make room for everyone. Anyone who wanted any other kind of buyout, looks like you are SOL.

Dave I would wait and see, I hope they offer all the packages to you guy's, so those that want them can get them. I think the local is trying to ease the minds of the lower senority. It sounds like the rumor mill is causing some anxiety. We understand that your people will fill the jobs as people retire, and what is left will be filled by us. so we are planning on getting the shitty jobs until we can bid off. All this is subject to change in a ford moment, so let's wait and see how it unfolds. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date, and we will keep you informed on any info from this side of the state. Looking forward to working with the good people at KCAP :cheerleader:

Just wanted to keep you guys in the loop. I am one of the ones looking for them to offer 100K, but if it doesn't happen, I will just continue to show up to work everyday and do my job. I need to get out and go crappie fishing, but our lack of rain has hurt the spawn.:cry::cry::cry:

Why would the union NOT offer all the buyouts here at KCAP???? It just doesn't make sense to me! They don't even explain why they are doing this?? Or are they wanting to see how many old timers take the packages first before they offer others here? Which I think will be a low number.. Our plant is not at risk of closing, so I think that the packages won't go that fast.. Anyone here at Kcap think alot of the old timers will take it??

I haven't spoken with anybody at the hall about retirement packages versus buyouts but I still strongly feel that KCAP is going to be offered both. I have been told that this coming week KCAP is going to send a elected official to St. Louis to get more information. I have also been told that St. Louis members are going to be surveyed again from Tues until Thursday if they would like to transfer to KCAP. This might have happened this past week if not it is going to happen this coming week. Anybody in St. Louis that signs up to take the transfer will not be able to back out once their signature is on the dotted line. The will only be able to come if there are availabilities at KCAP though. The part that I found interesting is that St. Louis employees who choose to take the transfer will receive 45K to do so. This will be 10k up front, 15K after the first year in KCAP, and another 20K after the 2nd year in KCAP. I think this is the same deal that they have worked out a couple of other times. With all this being said I am almost certain that KCAP will receive buyout packages plus the early retirement packages. If this does come to the forefront in coming weeks I wish everybody from both locals the best on their decisions.

At our union meeting on Wednesday, we were told KCAP was going to be offered the same packages we were at SLAP. The only difference being that you may not get the special 50/10 retirement package as that was special to a plant closing. The contract states 55/10 to retire but they lowered it to 50 since we were actually closing.

We start transfer signups Monday. KCAP reps are suppoose to be here Tuesday to answer any of our questions. We're told transfers will likely take place in July and August.

Hey Dave I'm friends with Matt Snell and "off the record" he said we'ds have an oppurntunity to accept all the packages. Details and how many are yet to be determined. It wouldn't make sense to not offer us what is being offered elsewhere.

Not trying to be negative, but the last time I talked to our bargaining chairman, all that came out of his mouth was "retirement packages", so I could see our local trying to get only the retirement incentives, I hope that we all have a chance to accept a package if we are so inclined, I guess only time will tell.

I have an idea, let's get off topic, I am in the market for a motorcycle!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went up to Gail's Harley in Grandview and spent about an hour talking to one of the sales people, he suggested that since I haven't ridden in awhile(10 years) that I should be looking at a heritage or a fatboy because the fat front tire is a helluva lot easier to handle on the road. Any opinions?????????

Yea, I hear ya. I am hoping for a 100k buyout as well but not holding my breath.

I'd say get whatever bike you want. I've rode sportbikes all my life and have been shopping for v twins and rode a Big Dog and an American Ironhorse bike with no problems

At last months membership meeting the chairman stated that he was trying to get all of the packages and not just the retirement packages. I am almost positive this was stated. The best way to find out is attend the union meeting tomorrow at 2:00pm. I am sure he will be glad to answer any questions and fill us in on anything that he is currently aware of. Like the UAW 249 website stated they will let us know as soon as they know something. If he told you that we were only getting retirement packages at KCAP I believe he was including buyouts in that statement as well. I don't want to speak for him so please attend the union meeting tomorrow. Until then....

In all honesty, I would love to attend the union meeting, but, my son's first communion is tomorrow, and that is something I cannot miss. If anyone does attend, I would appreciate them letting me know what was said.

I see the Local posted about false rumors that are on here. When there is a void in communications, it gets filled with something, and usually that something is negative rumors. Why keep us in the dark? Some information is better than none, people's futures are at stake. I just seriously hope that communication is much better than this come contract time.

Oh, what a void there is in things.

I totally agree, don't feed me shit and keep me in the dark, I AM NOT A MUSHROOM!!!! But we all know how it works, the union does not want you informed as to what people in other plants are getting(buyouts) so they can run to the membership yelling "Look what we negotiated for you!!!!"

I honestly cannot say as to why there is little to no communication. I would just publicly and respectfully request more frequent communication and more timely communication.

I personally believe that the union doesn't want to put out any info that is yet concrete. Our SLAP local president was attending meetings with Ford during our union meeting. The info we got at the union meeting was what had been discussed to that point. Some things could change by Monday when we have a meeting to signup but surely the KCAP reps will know something by Tuesday as some of your reps will be at our hall to answer questions we have. I would bet come your union meeting tomorrow, you will have more info shared with you.

Will do, but I honestly think it'll be a hush-hush deal until after they find out how many SLAPers sign up to transfer...........

Yes, it WILL be hush hush. Gerald Bantom already said this since these buyouts are contingent on the number who signup to transfer. It is going to be exactly a 1 for 1.

It won't be one for one if the union let's the company officially close SLAP in exchange for all SLAP people to go to KC. In that case, KCAP has to absorb all of us whether that puts them over on manpower or not.

TwinCam,

If that happens, we would undoubtedly sit in a GEN pool at KCA. Am I correct??

I just read on local 249's website that we transferrees cannot bump anyone off of a job until one is opened for us. So if I have 10 yrs and go there, I can't be on the line period ( even take a job from someone with 2003 seniority) unless they get enough people to take a package and make room???

I won't mind sitting in GEN there either.. lol

Also, hypothetically, for those who decide not to transfer, will KCAP be forced to absorb us at the end of the contract if the union won't let them close it early?

I can't specualte on the first part but layoffs are always by seniority.

The transfer signup expires Sept, 2006. After that date, they can't make you transfer and their offer is also off the table. At the end of the contract who knows what will happen but I believe Bantom told everyone at SLAP GEN that if you want to keep working for Ford, you better transfer.

You can be pretty sure there won't be a GEN program in the next contract based on what's taking place now. Too costly for Ford and just plain dumb business wise to keep paying people not to work. Luckily, it was there when we needed it but don't expect it to be there next contract or possibly ever again.

Not sure, I was racing. I'll see what I can find out tomorrow but I'm more interested in the union meeting tomorrow in St Louis and how many sign up to transfer

I will be at the hall this morning will find out what I can. The relocation team will be at the Gen center from 7:00 to 7:30. The meetings at the hall start at 10:00. There are 480 that can transfer, I think that is the number I last heard which include the trades. It is sad to see the end, if the company has indeed come to terms with the union to CLOSE our plant. :titanic: Time to get off this boat, good luck to all my fellow SLAPPERS.
