ROLLS SURE IS UGLY

What were they thinking? IMHO it's so ugly in many areas, just starting with how the hood curves to meet the radiator RR grill.

 

Woof. BMW has done the marque no favors, when you compare what VW has done with Bentley.

Yep the Bently Continental GT would be my 2nd purchase after winning the lottery. 1st would be a REAL 1964/5 Shelby Daytona Coupe.

Someone somewhere near me owns a black Continental GT. I see on my way home from work once every few weeks. Looks even more stunning on the road.

I dunno, I happen to like Rolls-Royce's vehicles, but yes, Bentleys are awesome as well.

 

Have you all ever seen any Phantoms or PDCs (Phantom Drophead Coupe) before? I see them all the time and think they look great.

I'd settle for a high-grade Factory Five replica or one of the Superformance re-do, done by Pete Brock. The Daytona Coupe is the epitome of a GT machine. Then again, Superformance make the Ford GT40 MK2 big-block car, complete with Gurney bubble, just like Le Mans. The tub is 90% identical to the original, and is carried on the GT40 Registry.

Everything made by Bentley/Rolls is ugly as sin, especially that droopy, style-free, melted bar of soap aka the Continental GT..

Well, that's your opinion. Mine is that that Bentley is stunning to see; it's better in reality than in the photos.

 

But the Rolls? Grim, awkward sled.

The Rolls is equally ugly in person....and that was at the LA Auto Show with flattering lighting.

 

The Bentley on the the other hand is stunningly beautiful. I saw one in front of Target the other day (!?) A Continental GT convertible, I think, black/black/black.

Wow, I think the Continental series are some of the best looking cars out there.

I see them on a daily basis here in L.A. Can't stand them, for that kind of money you can get a beautiful car like an Aston Martin and save some cash as well.

Yes. About a year ago, one of the new "square brick" RR's was parked at Casino Rama, in Orillia. Got to give it a long thoughtful look, spent about 10 minutes looking at it, then turned my attention to the Maserati next to it. The RR, IMHO, is an awkward, clumsy-looking vehicle.

 

IMHO, it's the front clip. Ever since BMW got RR, they have been fumbling with it, with one awkward variation after another.

IMHO, it;s the best yet. But, the headlight area is "busy", with sub-elements that distract. The RR rad is better proportioned, but, IMHO, its "fit" into the clip is still somewhat awkward.

 

So, it's the best yet, but, it's not "there" yet, IMHO.

Would removing the indent around the headlights solve that "busy" problem for you?

The Superformance cars are nice. Peter Brock (God rest his soul) designed the Shelby Daytona oupe. Only 6 were made, one of which had it's body built in Italy.

 

As to the Bently Continental GT, IMHO they are beautiful. I have seen a few in real life (mostly in Newport Beach, CA.) and it's hard to believe that they weren't designed inItaly.

I used to see Rolls and Bentleys all the time when I was living in London last year. I gotta say, the Continental GTs are on a totally different level from anything out of RR, you see them all the time and they really don't come off as anything very exclusive. If you ask me, I agree with the melted soap bar statement.... its got no character at all, nothing says Bentley about it to me. Any of the current RRs on the other hand have SO much presence, IMO, such bold proportions. Truly immense too. The round headlights are a little awkward, but it doesn't really steal from the design as a whole if you ask me.

 

If I wanted a Continental, I'd go with the '91-'02 generation.

I have heard that you pay $250,000.00 for a new Bentley Continental and after about 7,000 mi it is considered "high mileage" and only worth about $8,000.00 Any truth to that?
