BTW the current Grapewine rumor is that Ford will finally reunite the Focus line with the MkIII coming Spring 2008 or 2009. The US market design might differ from the EU design (on the outside), but the car should be the same underneath

Its a turd.

The blatant stupidity of some people never fails to amaze me. It really makes you wonder about the parents...as in, did they have 10 teeth between them?

As for the car...dear God, bring it here. A sedan can be knocked off...and the timing would actually be fine. The Focus is about to get freshened, so that'd put the "III" two years afterward. Perfect.

I love the look overall, but in this market the 4-door should be a sedan. And, 2009 will be WAY too late for a true Focus redesign.

I don't know about the sedan... have to wait and see how the caliber does.... it seems a lot of new small cars comming out have a five door configuration.... I think I would rather have a five door or a suicide four like the saturns and the rx8....

That thing is gorgeous. Put a diesel in it and VW would have no sales in NA except for a few die hards. As it is it it would take on a slew of small asian cars. Just need 3 engine options, fuel economy, 50/50, and get up and go.

As Flex Fuel and an engine capable of ~40mpg on highway and civic and camry would finally have real competition in more peoples eyes.

Looks pretty sharp for a Focus. They should keep that whole package. The current Focus looks bland compared to that. If they can keep the pricing the around the same as it is now they should have a hit.

The Focus seems to be selling pretty well over in Europe, but the new Opel Astra, with its bolder styling, seems to be really cutting into the Focus sales. Ford is definitely in need of a sharper-looking Focus.

There is no way this will sell for under $17K, but if Ford moves quickly on a B-car, it might not have to.

And no, Ford does NOT need to make a sedan out of this-- compact sedans are quickly becoming the ugliest, most cartoonish-looking cars in the industry.

Those look great. I agree about the small sedans: I think the euro-hatch thing is finally going to start catching on here (influenced by the CUV "people-mover" phenomenon). (Remember, we had about a 20 year lag with "sport sedans" - BMW 3 series and Honda Accord were having our lunch for a couple decades while we kept pumping out big T-Bird coupes, Grand Prixs and Monte Carlos, with small crew cab trucks - the U.S. version Ranger still hasn't caught up - and a lot of other things too.) I think a 5 door is an idea whose time has finally come to the U.S.. As far as those rear doors go, I would give them a try before passing judgement. Besides, they're not for humans. They're for kids - it's a mistake to confuse the two. And rear visibility is compromised in most contemporary designs with their high-assed bunched-up rear ends anyway (a trend which I hate, although I understand the benefits in trunk room). Never realized how much until I first backed up in my old Falcon. Too bad we'll probably have to wait until about 2012 or something before we get anything resembling this. By then, most of the rest of the world will be moving on. The American consumer continues to be underestimated and underserved. I can't for the life of me figure it out. They were scared as hell to introduce the "radical" '86 Taurus too. The rest is history: once they did, they couldn't make 'em fast enough. (You know, until the '96 restyle ....... )

The 2door looks great. Thats exactly what Ford needs slotted under the Mustang as an economial 2 door model. The style of the rendering makes the car look refined and well engineered. If Ford could make sonething that looks good, has the right quality and feel, it could put the GTI to shame and I am all for it. Cars in this class I am not stuck on so much heritage, otherwise we would end up with reborn Pintos or Escorts.

The design language doesn't work right in my opinion. I mean, if it was a two door roadster like a Z4, I'd say it is rigt on but for a FWD compact? Doesn't work for me. Needs to be less curvy, more boxy. I think it is the wrong direction for the Focus. I still think the best looking was was the original ZX3 models.

Personally, I really like it. This is the kind of refreshing that Ford needs to do. It maintains the overall appearance between the 2 door and 4 door models too - unlike the current.

Add a few package levels (base, sports, LX - or something to that effect) and even two or three powertrain levels, 2.3L, an AWD RS model, and even that diesel that they have been testing in a Focus, and I'd bet that they would sell a ton of them. Especially if they could do what it takes to make them bullet-proof - instead of trying to sell them just on the lowest price in class (in other words - best in class).

It's a great looking car, in 2 door and 4 door. If you can't see that it blows the current north American focus clean off the face of the planet then you just don't have a clue about appealing design.
