NickF1011
yes sir it is the original one still looks like new no cracks or fraise How the heck did you manage THAT one? I thought 85,000 miles was long on my Cobra.
svtenthusiast
Did you buy this car brand new? I am assuming V-6 Mustang? It would be a treat to see a picture of the odometer. Awsome news :happy feet:
fordmantpw
How the heck did you manage THAT one? I thought 85,000 miles was long on my Cobra. The belt on my '99 F150 looked fine after 100k, but we changed it anyway just to be safe. Isn't it more the length of time the belt is on as opposed to the number of miles as the rubber will detiorate with age? There is so much less wear and tear per mile on a vehicle driven so many highway miles per day. At any rate, I'd probably change the belt long before 400k! I could have passed the same standards as a much newer vehicle.
Bored of Pisteon
Wow, I thought my (retired livery vehicle)2001 Lincoln Town Car with 414,000 miles was something. It does pay to drive these cars everyday on the highway. And especially used with Mobil 1 in them also. Maybe some Lucas to boot! Drive on brother! :shades:

What oil are you using just interested. Love your beast, well done hope you get another 490,000 miles from it. It's a great advert for Ford, l am sure a lot of folk have brought Fords purely on you telling them about your car and how well it's performed. I want a new Mustang. matthewq4b
i use 10 -30 castor oil Jeeze I hope you mean Castol and not Castor. Castor based lubricants were not used in most applications much after the first war, Most applications switched to crude based lubricants for the higher available mileage between changes. Mind you the engines pre WWI leaked as much oil, as the fuel the they burned. Matthew

matthewq4b
Sorry, I just have a hard time believing it. Beliving what ? 490,000 miles on a vehicle ? add anouther 170k on that and that is what i put on my 92 grand marquis before i parked it, and it was only parked due too exsesive body rust. I also used Castrol in that vehicle. Matthew Edited August 17, 2009 by matthewq4b
atomaro
Beliving what ? 490,000 miles on a vehicle ? Matthew No. I can believe that much mileage on a vehicle. I do not believe his claims of the minimal maintenance involved. Especially on an engine with head gasket problems. Not to mention alternators, water pumps, fuel pumps, and belts etc that never go that long.
BlueOval5.0
Wow, that's longer commute than I have (150 r/t for me) and that's a lot of miles on a 10-year old car. You've gotten your monies worth, that's for sure! I guess that might bode well for me although I'm not sure I want to keep this commute as long as you have. I park my car on the weekends and use my pick-up to run around. It is nine years old and has less miles than my Fusion as does my wife's minivan. As far as maintenance goes - should I be worried about tie rods and ball joints at a certain point? I'm following the maintenance guide for what is listed under "normal" usage for fluids, tune-up, etc. All I have done at this point is oil anf filter changes, tire rotations, and air filter changes. I'm still on the original rubber too, I think I can get another 20k out of the tires - which to me is amazing considering they're have a treadwear rating of only 300 I believe. Thanks, Eric
97svtgoin05gt
Bravo on this accomplishment. I do however feel that not changing a serp at that mileage is just being crazy. Its got to be shiny enough to shave your face in at this point. If you don't change it and/or carry a spare with you, you are nuts!
