If anyone wants to avoid a CL65 AMG, I'll gladly take it off their hands for $4500. :shades: That article is absolutely the dumbest and largest waste of time and bandwith I have ever see. What do they think? That people purchase Big trucks to get good gas mileage? Or that the rich purchase high end vehicles because they was cheap transportation. The trucks are for working. The others are status vehicles. Give me a break.
J-150
the news media again proves that editorial integrity died a long time ago. everything is op-ed without facts nor research
V8-X
Damn, what a waste of time. Sorry, but the Ram 3500 & Ford F350/450 aren't in the same class as the others. They are work vehicles that have usually one intended purpose. Except for when people with too much money simply buy one to have one. Hoser768
That article is absolutely the dumbest and largest waste of time and bandwidth I have ever seen. +1 I'll take car advice from Forbes about the same time I look to Road and Track for investment advice. 92merc
What would possibly "fail" on a 350 that isn't on a 250 Super Duty? List sure doesn't make sense. But Mercedes sure owned that list.
aneekr
+1 I'll take car advice from Forbes about the same time I look to Road and Track for investment advice. The investment advice you'll get from Road and Track is probably better than that from Forbes, actually. Ralph Greene
LIke many of you, I'm trying to figure out the point of this list. The only thing I can figure is the author is trying to say after these vehicles have depreciated down to about the cost of a new popular priced vehicle, and someone might say "WOW....I can buy a new AMG vehicle or M5 for the cost of a new Fusion", don't do it, because unless you have deep pockets....you can't begin to afford the normal repairs and maintenence of one of these vehicles....and you'll be sorry to bought it. That's not to say they have more than usual repairs, but a new transmission for an M5, as an example, costs a lot. But to my way of thinking, if you could buy a nice M5 at a low enough price, and can do maintenance and minor repairs yourself, they are some pretty neat vehicles....when you don't have that much in them. I love how they said Toyota had a 31% gain in sales in July! (they did when you compare it to June) So manufactures that did well in June came up really short in his numbers. chromehorn
 Que? Is the author trying to state that these cars even qualify for C4C? I guess Ms. Elliott is simply trying to suck people into reading her article by using the word "clunkers" in the title. I certainly hope that is what she was trying to do. As it is, the whole premise of the article is quite ridiculous. Most everyone knows that the cars listed have either a high depreciation rate, a high hunger for fuel, a high need for maintenance or any combination thereof. Caveat Emptor. ANTAUS
I believe that the article presumes that because those vehicles are luxury gas guzzlers, that they will probably be abandoned because of this recession. What I say, is those that can afford it, don't NEED a fuel stingy vehicle nor care for one really. I mean, someone driving a CL550 AMG, is really going to buy a Prius, like you have to be f--ken kidding me? You might have ONE here or there, that might be doing a 180 and making a statement, but really...a pointless article all together. Maybe those vehicles might be clunkers 20 years from now, but for right now, I doubt anyone will turn them in for a $4500 credit on a economy car... ANTAUS
And ironically, someone I know that knows nothing of cars tells me "Hey I saw this new Corolla they made for Lexus"...I explained the vehicle to them and they still walked away with a "Oh, still its a Corolla".... 01FOCI
Not sure where they got that a Mercedes SL roadster costs 190,700. The two AMG variants cost 135,00 or 194,700 and the "bottom of the line" SL550 cost a mere 98,500 per MB's website. So I wonder if they made up the maintenance costs too? V8-X
Who in the hell listens to these peoples' made-up opinions anyway? Isn't it the media who make these opinions initially, and the blind consumer simply piggy backs what they her? Just like the media likes to stir up bad press about the domestics, and these same blind consumers simply follow.

I believe that is an AMG, no? Plus, if the numbers you're posting are correct, they may've just accidently entered a "0" instead of a "4" in the blank: 19_,700. ---- Oh, and I like how the first car (E63 wagon) is not even out yet (at least the one they pictured).
