Roadtrip
I vote for anything on this album: Even though it was released 44 years ago this month, this soundtrack by the Vince Guaraldi Trio still sounds modern. Vince Guaraldi's treatment of "What Child is This" ("Greensleeves") is stunning in its melancholy and plaintive mood, all the while pushing new harmonic boundaries in a centuries-old Christmas Carol. He demonstrates some amazing chops in his solo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOvRDW4u590 It is absolutely gorgeous! Ditto for "Little Drummer Boy" (although I could not find it on YouTube). "Christmas Time is Here" is modern by Christmas-song standards: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjtniSxl2zI Then there's the immortal "Linus and Lucy," which everyone in Western Civilization is familiar with, although even though it was featured in the Charlie Brown Christmas Special, I'm not sure it qualifies as a Christmas Song. Nonetheless, it's always associated with Christmas and is always good for a smile: Vince Guaraldi's music on this album is timeless, with multi-generational appeal, as well as crossover appeal -- which is among the rarest of commercial musical accomplishments. The CD, which is easy to find, makes a great stocking stuffer. Every single person I've given it to over the years made a point of telling me later how much he or she and their families enjoyed it. It's a blend of old and new, but always modern sounding -- while always capturing the spirit of Christmas. Nonetheless, it's always associated with Christmas and is always good for a smile: I think "Linus & Lucy" debuted on the Great Pumpkin Halloween Special. That song is the first of the 30 song CD we keep in the minivan... it is truly a wonderful classic! I also dig the "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" song and Elvis's "Blue" song. Wholly agree. It's one of three Christmas CDs I own. I still have all my Peanuts' paperback books from my childhood. I think "Linus & Lucy" debuted on the Great Pumpkin Halloween Special. That song is the first of the 30 song CD we keep in the minivan... it is truly a wonderful classic! It was definitely in the Halloween special, but I'm certain the Christmas special came before (it was the first one to come out in the mid-60s) Although, the song (L&L) was composed before, IIRC. Bored of Pisteon
Jose Feliciano: "Feliz Navidad" it's Christmas 1972. What do I know??? I wasn't around then...then again...maybe I was; in a former life! MERRY CHRISTMAS! Edited December 25, 2009 by Bored of Pisteon
Hoser768
Christmas at Ground Zero -- Weird Al Yankovic Good choice. But I prefer, "The Night Santa Went Crazy" Not a direct parody but an obvious shot at "I Believe in Father Christmas".
