Bob Rosadini
Does anyone besides me gag at the constant barrage of 'Yoda ads "thanking you for your loyalty" to the strains of some real sappy music? How about another version---"Thank you for your loyalty- we tried to keep it a secret for as long as we could but you know - "shit happens" -and we have our holier than thou reputation to maintain. So glad you have forgotten that we tried to snow you and its business as usual once again-after all we are Toyota"!
packardbob
As a matter of fact I do find their commercials a little nauseating at the very least. From the outside looking in it is clear Toyota is working on damage control, but to the rest of the people who want to believe in Toyota and their products, it's a sincere apology and believe it will never happen again. What is most sad of all, is that people around this country are dumb enough to believe that load of crap Toyota is dumping on them in their commercials. Footballfan
I get sick of them too- *uck Toyota, their dealers and their advertisers. Could you imagine how Ford would have been crucified if they displayed that sort of arrogance after the Firestone controversy? I also see some popup ads from Shitoyta as well saying how "experts" disproved claims of sudden accelleration. Like any good mafia organization, isn't it more of a situation of Toyota blaming the victim? They are now boasting about their higher sales without stating that they had to put a lot of cash on the hood to attract those customers. The good side of that is it is drawing customers ahead from futher months, it is eroding the resale value of their cars, and they are making the same mistakes that the Big Three did. I hope these lawsuits and government investigations bleed Toyota dry.
SVTDarkCobra
You know at first I thought I was the only anti Toyota person on the face of this earth. Never trusted them and never will, and you bet the commercials sicken me. They make me so sick that I have to change the channel. But I just don't understand why people would consider a Toyota when they lied to their "loyal" customers and blamed them to try and save their reputation. It is not the recalls that anger me because all manufacturers have them. It is how they lied and tried to cover it up. I agree with you Footballfan as I hope too that the lawsuits and government investigations bleed and destroy Toyota and its reputation it should of never had. Toyota gave thier junk away for sales. Don't worry from what i seen from the auto show they already paying for it in lost customers, lost intrest, lost resale value and now people will expect Yoyota to go on sale before buying like the domestics. twintornados
I guess they can't resist a good bargain even if the car is junk. Not really...Chrysler sales, like their cars are in the crapper despite all known efforts to move 'em off the lots. While I wouldn't go as far as calling Toyotas' "junk" per se.....it amuses me that "joe consumer" and the media want to forgive them for their sins, yet cannot wait to pounce when Ford, GM or Chrysler messes up.... PS: And yes, the commercials make me want to puke too... Edited April 4, 2010 by twintornados
mackinaw
Toyotas' are not junk. Toyota is a major player in the car industry and will be so for many years to come. What the "unintended acceleration' debacle has done is knock them off their "best car in the world" pedestal. They are now like everybody else, trying to survive in a very competitive industry. As for their commercials, they are nauseating, but Toyota, wisely, has crafted them to appeal to their loyal customers. I will be glad when this ad cycle is over. RangerM
I'm by no means a cultural guru (Retro-man would be a much better source for understanding Japanese culture), but I think the point of the ads is not so much an admission of any culpability. Rather, an apology (from a Japanese perspective) is more a showing of humility. I'm not sure of the American influence in them, but the ads seem to me to be a very Japanese thing to do. Maybe that cultural difference explains the negative reaction some have.

PS: And yes, the commercials make me want to puke too... Toyota is focused on damage control right now. The order is move units at all cost, give them away at a big loss if necessary but move every unit possible. Who knows how many they have dumped in fleets. The purpose is simple: Show no weakness. Try to convince the American buyer thal all of the recalls and cover-ups have had little effect on sales. It's "Business as usual." The difference is Toyota has a ton of money they can burn through to pull this deception off but Chrysler certainly does not.
Joe771476
This thread is here because everybody likes coming in here as opposed to the other forums. In any event, news about Toyota does affect Ford, so who cares? You could say it could go in the COMPETITION forum, But I don't mind it being here. We're all Ford enthusiasts here. I don't care what topic is in what thread.
2b2
Why is this thread in the Ford discussion area? maybe we can use it to give advice? like ThrottlegateMotors needs a new advertising slogan: "We haven't killed That many of you ...yet"
Pioneer
Why is this thread in the Ford discussion area? For the exact same reason that people insist on posting photo-shopped pictures in normal threads, even when the picture is not of the car the discussion is about.
RichardJensen
For the exact same reason that people insist on posting photo-shopped pictures in normal threads, even when the picture is not of the car the discussion is about. No. I made a conscious decision to leave this thread here. Whereas I simply don't care about photoshopped images in non-photoshop threads. So the reasons, thus far, are quite different. On the one hand, I do care, on the other hand, I don't. ===== I left this thread here because it's quite obviously a 'vent' thread for a certain segment of the board. Moving it to the competition forum where it would draw the notice and comments of people like CKNSLS would result in a major flame war. Here, it can be a quiet little fire that just burns itself out. The average consumer could care less about Toyota lying to public....they want a great deal. But as been said these great deals will backfire on them over time and destroy Toyota's vaunted residual value. A used Camry will not be worth as much as it used to be with their dented quality reputation and unbelievably low lease deals.
J-150
Is this any different than Ford with Firestone tires or bad cruise control switches? The loyalists brushed it off and kept buying Fords. Toyota is no different. For every car with acceleration issues, there are far, far more that do not have these issues. Just try and convince those owners to not buy another Toyota. About as easy as telling F150 owners to not buy another because someone's house burned down somewhere very far away.

I personally get sick of the radio spots being aired in Southern California about people trading in their luxury Range Rover for a Ford Flex. I am thinking if these idiots couldn't afford the repair and maintenance costs why would they buy (a semi exotic SUV) one in the first place. Kinda like $700.00 front brake jobs for BMWs..... They traded it in to get out from under the costs, not because it's a better car. Edited April 5, 2010 by CKNSLS

I read their incentive spending is actually lower than average compared to other automakers. This can explain the lower sales.
