The Granada looking T-bird.

As far as the diesel Escort, when I worked at the Ford dealership in Worthington we had a customer with well over 200k on it and all he ever did was maintenance.

I ahd a customer with Aerostars with over 800k on them...and when they got to 800 they reverted back to Zero....funny...oh how about the AWD Tempo...it also ran forever, but what a piece....and the charlies Angels Mustang...eeeeek....

The 1980-82 Thunderbird and Cougar were awful...I remember seeing the first photos of them in late 1979, and thought they were ugly then. Even the Chrysler twins - Cordoba and Mirada - were MUCH better looking.

Ford did redeem itself with the aero Thunderbird and Cougar in 1983.

I don't recall the Diesel Escort being unreliable...just very slow. But all diesels were in those days. For that matter, even subcompacts from the early 1980s with gasoline engines weren't balls of fire.

I thought that the Aerostars were like the old Chevy Astros...they run forever, and are easy to fix when something does go wrong. But they aren't particulary refined, and the trim and body work aren't the best.

As for Mustang II...I always thought that, for Ford, it was best to skip anything made from about 1972 until the Fox-body Fairmount debuted for 1978. For Chrysler, it's best to skip anything made from about 1973 until...the early 2000s.

My family had a 82 Escort Wagon...it didn't do anything then when you stepped on the pedal. Slow engine with a crappy automatic. What was worse was a Chevette we had on vacation in 1986...my dad had to shut the AC off to make it go anywhere when we had to get on to the expressways.

Post 1990 or so I4s with Automatics finally where drivable...at least in the Ford lineup.

What are the five crappiest Ford vehicles (North American) ever built? This can include Lincoln, Mercury and Edsel.

I'll take a Swing

1980-1984/85 First Gen Escorts

Festiva (not sure if you meant assembled or sold)

Aspire (not sure if you meant assembled or sold)

Pinto

1984 Mustang with I4 88HP in it
