Thank you We have a 2003 Ranger with 4.0 V-6 and manual tranny. Not what you were asking but doubt it has changed much. Have always been happy with mpg. Driving a mix of country roads/interstate at 70+ it delivers a very consistent 19+mpg. Going on a long trip at 75/80 it doesn't do as well. Averages about 18 mpg. Probably due to the 4.10 gearing and lack of a real overdrive on the tranny. Anyway, it has always been a fuel efficient vehicle for us. Equals most less capable SUV's with V-6 in our high altitude area. And also, it has been trouble free at 60,000 miles (dealer maintained) - bought used with 9,000 miles on it. Really a nice enough vehicle, solid, tough and competitive mpg assuming you don't need to carry passengers.

Really good 4X4 in bad conditions with limited slip rear.

RangerM
Based on what I've pieced together from various sources, it appears that the Ranger's real world MPG took a hit when the SOHC 4.0 came into being. I have a '93 Ranger with a 4.0L OHV and 5-spd. I regularly get about 21 in the city, 22-23 in mixed driving, and 24 mpg on the highway IF I keep it below 70.
