GM Chief Markerter Unfazed by Ecoboost

Recommended Posts

Ford’s EcoBoost F-150 also boasts better power numbers at 365 hp and 420 lb.-ft. (569 Nm) of torque, compared with the Silverado’s 315 hp and 335 lb.-ft. (454 Nm) of torque.

The EcoBoost maximum torque arrives earlier, at 2,500 rpm, compared with 4,400 rpm on the Silverado, and it trumps the GM V-8 in payload and towing.

“(Ford has) done a good job of marketing the EcoBoost, and that’s a challenge on our side to make sure that consumers understand you can get similar mpg out of a V-8 Silverado without sacrifice,” Perry says.

Yes, indeed, that *will* be a challenge.

a couple of things I found of interest in this article -

A new, fuel-saving 8-speed RWD transmission comes from GM in 2011, as well, and would be expected in the truck portfolio.

I must have missed this info before. I know Chrysler has one, but I didn't know GM had one in the works.

[Ford] promises better fuel economy on ’12 models.

This was in reference to the F150. What do they have in store. Have they been sandbagging mpg numbers or is there something new coming?

Might be this...."The EcoBoost F-150 with 2WD starts at $28,185, while the Silverado 2WD is priced at $23,975." :reading:

boy is THAT twisted....which engine, which body configuration and which model.....the eco engine powerwise at least compares with GM's big boy, NOT the 5.3, in that case its Fords 5.0.

GM has bigger immediate problems with their aging Silverado, a growing inventory means slowing production and offering incentives.

One problem flows from another yet GM doesn't seem to be able to make the connection...

Not having an Ecoboost competitor is the least of their problems.

Sure would be nice to see a 3.5 EB Mustang with an 8-speed; with the right ratios for EB characteristics, it should be exciting. Ford was early with 6-speed units, too bad it seems that they are going to be a little late to the party with 8-speed units.

Is there any word as to when? :)

"Late" is all relative. Will they be first to offer them? No. Will they be last? Not even close. Ford will use them where they make sense. There comes a point where you get diminishing returns from added gears.
