hotcarl
If so, won't that drive up Ford's fixed labor cost; isn't that what they are trying to avoid with us?

You would think, but they call it retension bonuses and no it does not count in their fixed labor cost! its not fixed if it is a bonus! Most salaried fks have no health care or sub either! Thery treat them like contractors!
hotcarl
So no more merit raises? A rose by any other name is still a rose... Or should I say, a raise by.... Oh yea and I call BS on your "most" claim. While I could possibly believe "many" I'd have a hard time buying "most"

hotcarl
Every member of management at my facility that I have asked so far today tells me that they have company sponsored health care although most claim that it is not as good as mine. No, it isn't as good as ours. And they've had to BUY their own vision coverage for quite a while. Plus no salaried new hire after January 1, 2000 is covered by a defined benefit pension - they went 401K only with new salaried hires more than ten years ago. And, in the last eight years, it wouldn't be the first time that a new salaried hire came in for a plant engineering job that paid him less than those of us hourly (before the Tier Two thing) make. At least at Ford I haven't seen the crap my relatives at GM have seen - fucking skilled trades and even production "supervisors" that were contract employees, and I guarantee they make less than the hourly they supervise. Welcome to the new "normal".
