RichardJensen
There are useful nuggets in AutoExtremist, but it's gone from panning for gold to running a stamping mill on low grade ore these days. How to spice up the chore of digging through another truck load of DeLorenzian excess? Drink *one* shot every time you read the words "mojo", "arrogance", "desperate", "clueless", "notgonnahappen.com", "Not Good" Drink *two* shots every time you read the phrases "product driven", "don't/doesn't get it", "steaming bowl/pile of not good", "genius", or see him use sarcastic quotes. Drink *three* shots every time Peter refers to his career in the advertising industry. Drink *four* shots every time Peter refers to GM in an article that is not about GM. Drink *five* shots every time Peter asserts that the 'auto industry is unlike any other industry'. Edstock
another truck load of DeLorenzian excess? Ah, the 2012 DeLorenzian — with real Corinthian leather, with the top-split infinitive. I didn't realize they were shipping. :happy feet:
Harley Lover
There are useful nuggets in AutoExtremist, but it's gone from panning for gold to running a stamping mill on low grade ore these days. I could say the same thing about some of the posts around here. The difference is he's doing it for a living, writes to his deadline, and apparently is making a living at it (he's over the 10 year mark). mackinaw
DeLorenzo is a very interesting guy to talk to, always has a story to tell, and has an incredible amount of contacts in the auto industry. Forget the GM stuff, ask him about the Cobra's the Ford guys use to bring over his house when he was a kid.
Moosetang
Drink every time he leads with a GM story, even if its the 4th or 5th most interesting auto news story of the week. No wait, you'd go blind. Drink every time he gives GM hell about something but balanced it with the flimsiest fluff possible to make the news go down easier. No wait, you'd kill your liver. Drink every time he says GM "gets it" and would be ruling the world if only Lutz were in charge instead of [insert executive here]. No wait, you'd die. ehaase
Also drink a shot every time he says "you know" on Autoline After Hours. It's very irritating.

Hey, I browse his columns every week because he *does* have valuable insights. But man alive, the guy needs an editor like fish need water--or perhaps even more so. Forget the GM stuff, ask him about the Cobra's the Ford guys use to bring over his house when he was a kid. It is kind of hard to wade through the many, many, many paragraphs he writes especially on his leading RANT page. I know I find myself skipping over many of the paragraphs or just stop reading it altogether. But his overall experiences and knowledge of auto scene and racing is impressive. I enjoyed his ride down memory lane on Chevy's 100 anniversary when he talked about all the Chevy vehicles his father, family, and himself have owned over the decades. He could give Jay Leno a run for his money. I also love his archive, racing photographs. His one today of Jim Rathman's Offenhuaser Indy racer (1960) was very cool. RichardJensen
My point was to answer the question you asked. But thanks for the penguins. It was a rhetorical question. RichardJensen
Scoring this week's column: +2 shots (sarcastic quotes): “crisis” +1 "True Believers" (okay, it's not in the rules, but he uses the phrase often enough it should be) +2 shots (sarcastic quotes again): “Chevy Volts spontaneously combust while driving!” +2 shots (more sarcastic quotes): “green” +2 shots (still more sarcastic quotes): “electrification of the automobile” +2 shots (sarcastic quotes--again!): “finger snap” +2 shots (usual suspect): “fix” Total score: 13 Edited December 6, 2011 by RichardJensen

RichardJensen
Scoring this week: Par. 1: Honorary shot because Peter self-references +1 Par. 8: Sarcastic quotes (“great cars”) +2 Par 10: Sarcastic quotes (“smart luxury”) +2 Par 11: Sarcastic quotes (“waste”) +2 Par 14: GM reference in an article about Acura, + 4 Par 17: Notgonnahappen (minus the '.com'): +1/2 Total: 11-1/2. A decidedly easier to read article than last week's space filler.
Hugh
So is Acura the Japanese Lincoln? I enjoyed the Integera, a very fine car, lots of fun. I commented on my mates new CSX "How's your new Civic?"...enter tumbleweed...damned dead air.
