Mark Fields does not oversee every employee who works for Ford, there are a lot of good and bad people who sit in offices inbetween Fields and the floor.

Richard, not everyone is trying to pursuade people when they make a comment, nor are they trying to have a conversation with you. For a person to beef about the last few people who have lead Ford is natural considering the state of the company. I don't want a bean counter running Ford, I want a car guy with business savy and a bean counter as his right hand man. I don't want figuares to dictate direction but it must have a role. You can disregard this if you want as it is merely an opinion or a preferance if you like.

What D said, and then some.

While some will try to have you believe that cars will soon become akin to refrigerators, most Americans disagree. We see Fusion, Vettes, Caddillacs, Mustangs, all doing well, we know the reason they are is that they are diferent........or new.

Yes, you have the two leaders in competency, Camry and Accord still going along, but convince their buyers that there is something that is as reliable; but exciting, and they will flee in droves. That in itself is a nich that needs to be exploited.

Therefore, what D said was correct-------------->we need a carguy-gal, and one that can pull the trigger, not a bean counter from hell who won't let anything over 2 bucks be added to content.

Trying to out quality in perception, out name recognition, out bland the really bland is just, plain, dumb! Americans do not want that, they just believe they are forced to accept it.

QUESTION----------------->what do you want for your own personal vehicle?!?!?! A Vette that needs service once a year, or a Lexus that needs service once every 18 months? 3 times in 3 years, as opposed to 2 times in 3 years, and whole lot more fun to drive!!!! Not to mention, they are close in mileage, so that is really not a concern.

It goes without saying in my book if it is your own, private, personal, vehicle; and not the family driver, which is the most preferable and prestigious. Toyoty has done well in brainwashing recently, as their vehicles are no better, if not worse than ours. The pendulum has swung to far, and it will swing back. It always does, as it surely will again. The only difference this time is------------>Ford should not be so greedy as to reap the reward without planning for its future. Stockholders are to be worried about, but they are less likely to moan if profits steadily come in, rather than make 8 bill 1 year, lose 3 the next.

I think we need to stop looking at the car business as consisting of two feuding clans.

Why?

Because it focuses too much attention on individuals, and too little on sustainable processes.

Quality does not happen by accident. Quality is a result of a series of processes. It took almost TWO GENERATIONS for people at Ford and GM to get this.

The same is true of sustained success in this industry.

Success does not happen by accident. Succes is a result of a series of processes. It depends not so much on the golden guts of people like Lutz, or the managerial brilliance of Zetsche, Bernard, or Ghosn. Success means systematizing product development the same way you systematize production. Impose a structure, and then continuously improve it.

You absolutely need smart and creative people to deliver quality. QC processes ensure that the efforts of those smart and creative people are implemented consistently and efffectively.

In like manner, you absolutely need smart and creative people to deliver desirable product. The processes ensure that the efforts of those smart and creative people are implemented consistently and effectively.

This 'car-guy' / 'beancounter' way of looking at things has to stop. The culture surrounding it glorifies some of the stupidest business practices ever to stumble into success.

Instead, we need to see a movement towards implementing systems that channel the talents of creative engineers and designers into the production of vehicles that consistently provide a high degree of satisfaction to a narrow and carefully outlined customer base. It is manifestly impossible to provide consistently desirable product when you are glorifying shoot-from-the hip 'car guys' who have their own specialties, and their own blindspots.

:titanic:

The day is nigh for the end of the Good Old Boys. PD is about to receive the earthquake that it desperately needs. FRESH BLOOD is needed.

When old Henry first formed the company business, he took ARMY guys in as HIS foundation for the company. Post-WWII was a great time to be in an industrial business. Times have changed, even the Army has, its now "The Army of One".

ITS TIME TO HIRE ALL OF THE LIEUTS, COLONELS, MAJORS, etc. that are coming back from Iraq and form the core of the company again! What a great way to give back!

IN the past 6 year PD has been down sized by 75% theres nothing left , :titanic:
