jce1978 Posted October 15, 2012 Share Posted October 15, 2012 I own a 2009 Edge SEL AWD, which has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. Not one warranty repair in the first three years! I can't even say that about a Lexus GS400 that I previously owned, although that car was very reliable as well. The Edge is about to turn 30,000 miles. About a year ago, I went to start the car and the battery was totally dead--no dome light, no parking lights, nothing. I was able to recharge the battery overnight with a trickle charger and took the car to my local Ford dealer for a diagnosis. He found nothing wrong with the charging system or the battery, although the indicator on the battery had changed from green to red. Because this is my wife's car, I replaced the battery anyway, hoping she wouldn't get stranded at some point. About a week later, I walked into my fairly dark garage to find that the headlights were on! The ignition switch was off and the key was out, but we always left the headlight switch in the auto position. I assume that something in the switch/daylight sensor was causing the battery drain. Since then, we've left the headlight switch in the off position and have experienced no further problems. The auto feature of the headlight switch is very convenient, especially around dusk. I would like to start using this position again, but am afraid we will run into the same battery-drain problem again. Can someone give me some advice on what switch/sensor to replace to remedy this problem? Also, if it is an underhood sensor, please tell me where I can find it. Many thanks in advance for your help. Have you tried putting it back to Auto to see if it reoccurs? It could be the switch or the smart junction box.
