Mustang Moving from AAI

Heard from a reliable source that Ford is moving Mustang production. It seems that AAI can't get its act together and Mazda want to build and sell more cars. My sources tell me the mustang will be going to wherever the second plant is for the Fusion is. Its my understanding that Ford is pissed off with all the Mazda slackers at AAI.

Bottom line is build more cars with less defects and they will be making mustangs till the cows come home. No offence the the former dearborn assy. workers you had a plant that was built to make model T's and you made the best with it for as long as you could, thats why you got rewarded with the dearborn truck plant!!

The moment your "source" comes forward and identifies him or herself we might believe you.

Unless that person is a cleaner. Then their word is golden.

Not just any cleaner, has to be a midnight cleaner to be considered reliable info. We just had about 30 2000-2004 senority from AAI return to their home plant, Woodhaven Stamping last month. Big mistake for them. Woodhaven is laying off about 150 total on 12-23. They'll probably never see FoMoCo again.

Old rumor was that Mazda wanted to pull the Mazda 6 out of AAI due to poor quality. I've heard that one many times. But that is a first for the Mustang rumor. Yes Woodhaven Stamping is doing some major cutbacks, heard they going back to mid 1996 for the layoff's. Heard some of the supervision is getting chopped also. Old Chuck better get it together over there. ;)

They still have tooo many salary heads for the size of the plant. Of course 7-10 of those let go were contractors. The place is overflowing with LL6's

While I really hope Ford gets more capacity on the Mustang, I seriously doubt they would ever move production out of the USA(fusion is mexico right?). Maybethe mazda can move out allowing full mustang production? doubt too many people would care where their mazda came from, but think the iconic mustang would have to stay here...rumours are always floating around- but I do think some more capacity of the mustang gt would be a good thing...just picked mine up finally yesterday and all I can say to the folks at AAI is thankyou, thankyou, thankyou...if there were actually stickshift gts available for test drives, I bet every test would be followed by an order- absolutely no disappointments with this car. Fit and finish are near flawless(rear spoiler on mine is loose- like maybe nut crossthreaded or something, everything else perfect) and it is by far the most fun Ive ever had behind the wheel...

only put 40 miles on it, but man...If it had been just a test drive, I would not have been able to go home without it. great job guys! Hope the design team behind this car can keep up the good work...I's swore that I would never buy another new car, as depreciation is so bad, and you could buy a restored classic for less that would increase in value, but this one is too good to pass up.

Hats off to Tang and crew, and all the good folks that put the elbow grease into bringing this car to life-

Merry Christmas!!!

It's a good thing for Ford to keep Mustang production at one plant. It keeps the demand up, the interest there. If they were to increase production, and every buyer that wanted a Mustang GT could just go to a dealer and buy it off the lot, it loses some of it's appeal. The way Ford does things, the Mustang won't remain hot like it is now..it'll get long in the tooth and demand will drop. What of this extra capacity then?

Unless Ford is planning on making some variants of the mustang i.e (cougar, Mus-lincoln), I can't imagine them needing much more than the current 192,000 unit capacity. It's more advantageous for Ford to run balls out at one plant Vs. some production at two plants. I just don't see the demand for the mustang going much higher than 220,000 units. This rumor seems to be pure bunk.

There are "rumors" of a Lincoln version floating around.

That's what Ford needs, 2 or 3 versions of ONE car. Didn't they see how it hurt GM? I would say keep them seperate. Make a Cougar but keep it so different that you can't tell they were part of each other.

Part of the problem is that GM at one point time just had a different plastic grill and taillights to tell the brands apart with no sheetmetal changes. The Problem now with GM is that they have too many car lines that they need to differant the same platform from and they can't keep everything fresh because of that due to the costs. There also isnt much overlap in Ford line up price wise like there is with GM.

Its far easier for Ford to have 3 different vechicles then it is for GM to have 4-5 of the same thing. The CD3 Trio is a good example of this.
