Steveottawa
After a long period with no Ford in the driveway - on this Thursday - my 18yr old daughter gets her new Escape Titanium. I'm impressed that while she really could have picked anything from anyone - after our test drives and looking around, she wanted this. As a shareholder, I'm pleased to see that she thinks its cool. Loaded...even self park - cause she needs it. Go Ford. PS: It will be parking beside two Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and a TT - but she's claiming garage space.

SoonerLS
18 years old with a 35k vehicle. Must be nice. I wouldn't know, but I'd've loved to have had the chance to find out. (My parents were well off, but I was broke as hell. ) OP, congrats to your daughter; sounds like she has very good taste in cars.

Pioneer
Meh. I bought my Cobra new @ 19 in 1997. I bought my SHO new when I was 20. I bought. I was just expressing dismay that an 18 year old is being given a vehicle that expensive, and demanding garage space on to of it. Now I know where my kids get the "I deserve" mentality. From their friends that are spoiled rotton. I had to work for mine. Of course, I could be wrong and the kid bought it themselves. If so, I apologize for being an angry parent that is tired of my kids demanding that everything be handed to them without having to work for it. /end rant Congratulations to the OP on their purchase.

My wife and I waited 2 years to get the new Escape and the Titanium was our choice with all options except 4X and towing. However before we could decide on the color the C-Max came out and we, or I, decided the 47x47x47 was more than I could deny and went with the SEL hybrid. My wife still says she wants the Escape but since I had to decide for economy I chose MPG. We are also owners of stock and we thank you and I'm sure your daughter will be more than satisfied with her decision.

With no way of knowing what said child did to deserve such a gift (and I'm thinking the garage space "demand" was more tongue-in-cheek than literal), I won't pass judgment. If I had the means, I certainly would do the same for my child if he/she was deserving.

Haha. Good one. She bought. With her OWN money - no financing - because she could not get approved in Canada for her $33,000 SEL model, so she bought a Titanium in the USA for $31k - CASH. I told her to go buy something cheap, that had 4 wheel drive (for safety) and was heavy - so if she ramped someone then physics would protect her. I didn't pay a dime. I also told her to stick that cash into Ford Stock and let the increase in value PAY for the car. Does she listen? Hell no. Just like her mother. HAHA And, my Dad "bought" me my first two cars by lending me the $3k for my Firebird and the $2k for that old Laurentian because I couldn't get a loan. Mark B. Morrow
Meh. I bought my Cobra new @ 19 in 1997. In the summer of '79, I sold my '65 Mustang Fastback to pay for the damage I did to a brand new Chevy wagon I ran in to and had enough left over to buy a '69 Olds 442 to take to college in Florida. The Olds cost me $1,200 and came with a built 400 4 speed. It was painted "Hi Officer Red" with a Black vinyl top and no A/C. Two years later I got my first new car, an '82 Ford EXP. ANTAUS
Then I wont share how much my first car was gifted from my parents, and for as much as my parents spent on it, I still to this day hate red instrumentation in vehicles, but all people cared for what "its a beamer" while I really wanted a Mustang. Hm actually 2 and 3 were also gifted by my parents while I was still in school.
twintornados
Hell my first car was a 1970 LTD that I bought for $300.00.....but that was 1982......
Steveottawa
We pick up the car Thursday...dealer driving it 7 hours to the border so we can do paperwork and bring it home. I hope its a good car for her. I drove the shit out of a 2 wheel drive with her in the front seat so I could determine if it was worth paying the extra $$ to have 4WD. It was. And then...she's still a student and it didn't matter to Ford Credit that she had cash - but they wouldn't offer a loan without a co-signer. It really pissed her off. So this was a great Escape with less than 2000 miles on it for a savings of $ 9000 from what a new one cost in Canada. She can likely drive it for a year and sell it for almost what she paid for it. Bam! Cheers everyone.

Anthony
My first car was the coolest car ever produced (BOUGHT off my parents..it was only 3 years old..it lasted another 2). Ladies and gentlemen, the 1985 Renault Alliance Convertible DL. 'Twas not a good investment. Edited May 16, 2013 by Intrepidatious

I'm guessing there are a lot of 18 year old Canadian girls who think the Shelby GT500 is "Cool" too. Now what?
