rednip
Does anyone know what Ford and the competition are doing to make First Responders aware of potential danger associated the high voltage systems incorporated into the Energi following a motor vehicle collision? There is one u tube video which discusses the risk which I have reviewed. Perhaps, a standard manufacturers window sticker is an option. dtorres
The high voltage lines under the hood of hybrids are colored yellow, orange or some other noticeable color. Firefighters will typically open the hood at the scene of a collision first and immediately cut these wires to cut off the power from the high voltage batteries before they deal with the rest of the car. Not true, firefighter are trained not to cut in areas that contain these wires. Here is what Ford has for Emergency Responders: "If occupant extrication is necessary, always use caution when cutting near the vehicle high-voltage system components. Do not cut any of the high-voltage under vehicle or under hood cabling (all high-voltage cabling is orange in color). High-voltage cabling runs from the high-voltage batteries under the left hand side of the vehicle to the underhood compartment. Refer to the diagram below for no cut zones." There is on going training with new electrified vehicles and Has-mat teams can respond with special training. In most cases, the manufactures put out information for training, here is what is published for the C-Max and C-Max Energi: http://www.evsafetytraining.org/~/media/Electric%20Vehicle/Files/PDFs/2013%20CMax%20Hybrid%20%20CMax%20Energi%20ERG.pdf Gary
