Firefly
Tradesmen, I'd like to have a Tradesman from each plant that has AWS name your plant, and what version of AWS you have. In other words are you on a 4 on-4 off, a 5-4-3-2, etc. Did you have a choice on your version? Thank you, KTP
Pioneer
DTP - 7 on, 7 off. No choice.

newworld
It's all about controlling legacy cost. Creating a turnover. Will you work schedules like this for 30 yeears? They don't want the next generation of autoworkers to spend 30 to 40 years w/ the Company.

With production and a two teared scale the math seams to works.
newworld
A moderate turnover benefits today's UAW as well, If people don't spend lifetimes at Ford and retire, there is less VEBA cost. Short term members still pay dues. Edited September 7, 2013 by newworld
hotcarl
L.A.P5\2-4\3 when this started we were surveyed and this is what got pushed thru ,with othere plants joining in to get the same. I heard that trades at LAP were NOT surveyed. They say they were surveyed only for which of the four crews that they would like to be on. Company rammed the 5/2-4/3 down their throats and the union did nothing to stop it even though the contract allowed for 6 or 7 other options. bigredogre
I am at lap and i was surveyed on the different schedules ,then the union along with 3 or 4 other locals went to dearborn to get this work schedule.
hotcarl
Was told by numerous trades that they were not surveyed. Said that they requested to be surveyed and the local unions stance was that a vote was not feasible whatever that means. Maybe some such as yourself were informally asked your opinion but there was no official survey. Heard many of the trades wanted 7on 7off but company at LAP wouldn't consider even though it was agreed upon by both parties in the national contract. Union laid down on its workers by coming up with new AWS that wasn't even in contract.

How is VEBA cost less if people don't spend lifetimes at Ford? Only legacy employees receive VEBA benefits. If you retire at the earliest age possible you will draw more from the VEBA than you will if you stay at Ford for more than 30 years where they pay for your health insurance until you die or retire.
