Anthony
http://www.autoblog.com/2013/09/19/2014-jeep-cherokee-review-first-drive/#aol-comments There are three sentences that, for this reviewer, define what needs to be conveyed about the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The first: it is very good. ... ... Which brings us to the next two lines you should know about Jeep's new mid-sizer: the Jeep Cherokee is dead. Long live the Jeep Cherokee. Pioneer
Two thoughts. 1. That thing is just plain ugly no matter what angle you look at it. 2. Is it wise for Fiat, in this day and age, to bring back the name "Cherokee"? Anything and everything, in this day off political correctness, that has its names roots from the American Indian, is being forced to drop it. Look at the assault on the NFL team the Washington Redskins.
Anthony
Redskins is a derogatory slang, Cherokee is a formal name. Big difference.
aneekr
Redskins is a derogatory slang, Cherokee is a formal name. Big difference. Pioneer makes an excellent point about the "political correctness" associated with this topic. The New York Times ran an article recently that stated, The company [Fiat/Chrysler Group] says it respects changed attitudes toward stereotyping. “We want to be politically correct, and we don’t want to offend anybody,” Mr. Morrison said. Regarding the Cherokee name, he added: “We just haven’t gotten any feedback that was disparaging.” Well, here’s some: “We are really opposed to stereotypes,” said Amanda Clinton, a spokeswoman for the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma. “It would have been nice for them to have consulted us in the very least.” Edited September 21, 2013 by aneekr
Pioneer
Redskins is a derogatory slang, Cherokee is a formal name. Big difference. Doesn't matter. Some group will raise a stink about it just to get their name in the paper. Pretty soon everybody will dog pile Chrysler. It's happening right now in Michigan. There is a bill going through the legislature to pull all public finding to state high schools and colleges with American Indian names or mascots that don't change their names. jasonj80
CMU's got the permission of the Chippewa band near their campus. That should be sufficient. Yeah the same Chippewa band that was throwing people out of the tribe so they could get bigger checks from the casino....

grbeck
Still way too many head light lens on it for me to like it...rest of it is fine... The interesting thing about the original Cherokee was its was helped designed (or designed by) Renault back in the late 1970s early 80s.... The exterior was penned by Dick Teague of AMC. Renault supplied the pedestal bucket seats (also used in the AMC/Renault Alliance and Encore) and the money to develop it, as AMC was nearly broke by 1981. EBFlex
The absolute assault on this country is amazing. You don't like the name Redskins? GTFO. Don't like Cherokee? GTFO. God I hate political correctness.
J-150
Why is Cherokee bad, but it's completely acceptable to continue using Grand Cherokee? People have too much free time to bitch and moan.
atomcat68
It's also acceptable to use this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherokee_Hair_Tampons
