AlRozzi
http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20140128/AUTO0103/301270109/1148/AUTO01/First-lady-invites-GM-s-Mary-Barra-watch-State-Union : General Motors CEO Mary Barra will attend the State of the Union Tuesday night, as President Barack Obama will mark the turnaround of the U.S. auto industry in his address to Congress. Barra, who became the first woman to head a major automaker when she took the reins of GM this month, will attend the address as a guest of first lady Michelle Obama. I was honored to accept the first ladys invitation, and delighted to represent the men and women of GM who are doing their best to make GM a company that Americans can be proud of again, Barra said in a statement. : I may be wrong but it seems Barra attending the State Of The Union address would be a mistake. If G.M. is attempting to distance itself from its government ownership and taxpayer bailout era then company leaders should take a hiatus from being seen with government officials. Besides, the only reason should would be there would be to highlight the bailout effort, right? Then again maybe she does not want to bite the hand that fed the company? RichardJensen
It's more like this: Why wouldn't you accept this invite. And extrapolating further, why wouldn't you view this invite as validation of your unconventional rise to the CEO slot. And why wouldn't you further view that validation as evidence that you really do know what you're doing and, therefore, people who disagree with you are wrong. And that, therefore, you only need to listen to people who agree with what you already think.
AlRozzi
RJ, I sense that part of what you are saying is New GM = Old GM!
chevys
She had to take the invitation after all of the money GM took from the tax payers not to mention the beating we all took in that deal. Mulally, if invited could have told them to pound sand if he felt like it. Personally, I would not walk up to the corner store to see BHO give a speech. grbeck
Maybe she "had" to accept the invitation, but most business leaders I know would have accepted it - including Alan Mulally. I didn't vote for President Obama in either election, but, if through some strange twist of fate, I received an invitation to attend his address, I'd go just for the experience. It probably would pay to go and rub elbows with the Senators and Congress people and such.
