I thought Ford was going away from the GT500 and over to the GT350 (non-FI). Is there new rumors about Ford doing both now?

There is a gt350 and gt500 in the Ford computer system. I was told an estimated 750hp with the gt500 that Ford is launching. I don't have any further info regarding specifics but if Ford was not launching both, they would not have it in their system.

Will be no match for the new GT500..

Most people won't ever use all of the power these vehicles offer - at least, not on public roads.

Most of the match-ups will be "won" or "lost" on the internet or over wings and beer.

From SRT's Facebook page:

It's official: The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has run an NHRA-certified quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds, at 125 mph. That's on stock production tires. With street-legal drag radials, it was certified at 10.8 seconds, 126 mph.

Video:

So, 11.2 on factory tires.
10.8 on street legal drag radials.

Damn is right. Everyone was thinking mid to high 11's on street legal radials.

This makes it the fastest muscle car ever (for now).

^ yeah that's hauling the mail. This thing would put most trailered cars at the local track to shame. Best part is, show up on drag radials and drive home.

:headscratch:

Who the heck trailers an 11-second car to the track? Several Shelbys in our Cobra Club running 9's and 10's that are very streetable.

I've seen Older model trucks, countless Chevell's and Nova's all trailered in barely cracking 11's most are 12 second cars. Almost every car on the show "pinks" that ran the 11 second bracket and pass time was trailered in. We are talking Iron headed Big Block turds that seem to make more noise than actual power. There are even aluminum headed deals not worth a shit. It's actually entertaining watching some cars with big slicks and roaring Big Blocks unloaded from trailers lumbering down the 1320. Not too long ago (99-03') low 13, high 12 was crazy fast for a street driven car.

Fair enough. Things have certainly changed a lot in the past 10-15 years for sure.

I wonder how much they are going to be asking for this when it comes out...

And I also wonder what Ford is going to do as a response...I see the GT350 as a more rounded track car ala the Boss vs an all out monster 1/4 driver like the what the GT500 was.

Well, there's nobody saying the GT500 won't return still.

I'm seriously considering (within the next couple of years) an Ecoboost 2.3L manual ragtop with performance package. I would not consider a GT500 but I might consider a GT350. This would be primarily a weekend driver/occasional track day car.

$59k is a smoking good deal for a street/smog legal 700hp 10 second car with warranty. Ford definitely has some homework to do. My friends and I were guessing around 65-70k.

Ford isn't that far from 707HP with the 5.8L Engine...I just wonder if they say they do a 715HP 2015 Mustang with drag radials if they can break into sub-10 second times since the Mustang is about 500lbs lighter.

But this also brings up another point...doesn't most drag strips require special equipment for cars that go that fast to protect the driver like scatter shields/drive shaft protection etc?

Pedal-to-the-floor, not letting up

Dodge is building on tremendous momentum as it introduces the new 2015 Challenger. The previous-generation Challenger scored five solid years of continuous growth. Sales doubled between 2009 and 2013 in a segment that saw just a 10 percent increase in the same period. In fact, in its fifth year in the market, when most cars are on their natural decline curve, the Dodge Challenger set an all-time sales record in 2013.

Looking to the future, the standard specialty segment in which the Challenger competes is projected to grow substantially in the United States. With nearly 430,000 units sold last year, the segment is up 10 percent since 2009 and is projected to grow 42 percent in the next five years, giving Dodge, and its new 2015 Challenger, a huge opportunity to grow with it.

Muscle-car enthusiasts who have flocked to the iconic Dodge Challenger since its introduction in 2008 now have even more reason to love their favorite muscle car with the addition of the 2015 Challenger 6.4-liter Scat Pack model, a new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, up to 11 percent fuel efficiency improvement and a host of driver-centric upgrades with its all-new interior.

The powerful and efficient 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 in the SXT and SXT Plus generates 305 horsepower and up to an EPA estimated 30 mpg on the highway – an improvement of up to 11 percent. Those looking for even more power will want the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 punching out 375 horsepower with 410 lb.-ft. of torque. And the enthusiast can now get behind the wheel of a best-in-class 485-horsepower and best-in-class 475-lb.-ft. of torque 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 Scat Pack that gets up to 25 mpg on the highway. For those who want nothing less than the ultimate in performance the most powerful muscle car ever, the all-new 707 horsepower SRT Hellcat delivers on all accounts.

In addition, America's true GT muscle car also offers an unmatched array of personalization options, including a wide range of colors, stripes and wheels – 12 wheel designs to select from – to create the perfect combination of fun, nostalgia, and power in one car.

Didn't the GT500 hit 200+?

Well, Ford claimed 200, but the best R&T could do is 196. http://mustangforums.com/articles/gt-500/can-the-gt500-really-do-200mph.php

I'm no aerodynamics expert, but I'd have thought either of them would hit a terminal velocity well below that level, given their relatively upright front end(s).

I'd also wonder about the pressure under the hood of ramming 200 mph air through the grill. It must be some strong sheet metal and latches.

Very impressive, even if you're not a Mopar fan!

I'd love to see Ford respond by dusting off their plans to offer the 6.2 SOHC in the Mustang. The 6.2 is a basically modern rendition of my favorite Ford engine, the FE 427 SOHC!

The 6.2 heads could easily push 750 - 800 HP. Block is more stout than that of the ChryCo Hemi. Has all the makings to pick up where the old 427 SOHC left off.

Currently laying out plans to swap one (Raptor Spec) into my 67 Fastback.
