markfnc
I have a 2007 Explorer Eddie Bauer V6. It has 198,000 miles. The transmission seems to be slipping in 2nd and 3rd gear. gets up to 3000 rpm before it shifts. runs fine in 5th on highway. could this be torque convertor or something else /worse. My wife had her 2005 Free Star torque convertor replaced under recall. The explorer is not worth a whole lot with the amount of miles I have, so I m not going to spend a lot on it. any ideas? akirby
Doesn't sound like a torque converter. Have you checked/changed the fluid lately?
YT90SC
2nd is overdriven 1st. If first doesn't slip, and there is not slippage in 5th, that rules out the OD band, the forward clutch and the Low/reverse band. Slippage in third could be an indicator of an intermediate band issue, but only intermediate because the other elements are already ok. Now flares and whatnot are another issue entirely, but I would bet you have an engine driveability issue. Clean the MAF, check the plastic upper intake for leaks where it meets the heads and reset KAM and see where you sit then.
edshropshire
I have a 2008 with 157,000 miles and my transmission is slipping going from 1st to 2nd and into 5th. My Explorer has been babied and I love the car, but not worth paying any more for repairs.
