2011 Lincoln MKS Random Dead Battery

Hi, New to the forum.

The battery in my 2011 MKS has died about 7 times in the past year. It's always when the car is left in a parking lot for a few hours, never in my garage. Anyway, It was towed to the dealership on one occasion but they couldn't find any problems. It's happened 2 times in the past 7 days. After a jump I've taken it to Advance Auto and the battery tests good. I don't want to invest in a battery that will do the same thing.

I am sure no lights etc are being left on.

The dealer has been of no help as they can't capture a code.

Any ideas with what's going on with my vehicle?

I would think the dealership would have covered most of this, but, here goes.

I'm assuming your battery posts and cables are good and clean? Properly tightened? Is the battery in fact dead, or is it something with the connection?

After a jump, does it run fine? Or do you need to charge the battery first? If you have to charge it first, that would lead me to think it's the alternator.

If it dies after a few hours, there is considerable drain, not something trickling the charge out of it.

Electrical gremlins can be a real pain to diagnose. Good luck!

Your battery is probably bad regardless of what the tests say. It's at least 4 years old - get a new one. $100 or so at Advance and they'll put it in for you in 15 minutes. That will solve your immediate problem. The bigger problem is if you do have a current draw that's killing the battery. Get the new battery then test the current draw with a voltmeter after the vehicle has been off for at least 30 minutes. Common causes are the shifter park detect sensor or the Body Control Module. A good dealer should be able to diagnose that.
