kyle
This stuff is getting a lot of attention and most of it seems to be coming out of Europe these days... http://articles.sae.org/14286/
rmc523
Will it be legal in the US, though? Doesn't Audi have the Matrix lighting that is similar to parts of what they mentioned that isn't allowed here?
fuzzymoomoo
Will it be legal in the US, though? Doesn't Audi have the Matrix lighting that is similar to parts of what they mentioned that isn't allowed here? Don't think so. Audi has been trying for several years now to get the government to change the regs so they can bring that over here. It's been met largely with silence. jasonj80
Not legal here, BMW has a system similar to this already in Europe. (It might be the same supplier) The U.S. is in the process of adopting the UN lighting standards and has support from the auto industry. The group fighting it is the trucking industry because of the requirement for tri-color trailer lamps will require rewiring many of the older trailers.

Red yellow and reverse?

jasonj80
Yes, rest of world mandates amber turn signals, the issue becomes in trucks if you have a new cab with old trailer, or an old cab with a new trailer. you could use an adapter on a new cab to old trailer but would be more difficult on an old cab with new trailer, I have noticed some of the newer trailers do have the amber turn signal, they the cabs appear new as well. UN also dropped the headlamp washer requirement for some led/xenon headlamps that manufactures had been objecting too.

Vehicles didn't all have CHMSL in one year either. They were phased in until replacement models debuted.

I totally agree, but the lobbyist have to get paid to do something, there is years of funding fighting something and very little supporting something.
