rmc523
And so would Everest. Potentially. Ranger/Bronco/Everest. Just taking SWAGs that add up to four. Isn't Everest Explorer-sized?
atomcat68
Isn't Everest Explorer-sized? Yes, but maybe they figure Explorer kind of became soccer-mom- like so they want to add something that is more of a Grand Cherokee competitor.
akirby
Isn't Everest Explorer-sized? Not sure. For some reason I thought it was smaller.
jpd80
the new Troller (obvious candidate for the Bronco) is built on the T6 platform. That's an internet myth. Troller T4 is at best a parts bin share with Ranger,I'm lead to believe that parts shared are engine, gearbox, some of the HVAC, Door handles and a few other minor parts. The front and rear suspension is completely different to T6.
Harley Lover
Any possibility that whatever replaces the C-Max could spawn a small CUV variant? That would seem like a natural extension of the product line, plus give Ford something unique in that segment (along with additional higher MPG sales). One could argue that the C-Max is somewhat in the CUV space anyway.
jpd80
Isn't Everest Explorer-sized? Hip and Shoulder room is about 2" narrower that Explorer so maybe more like Edge on the inside.

Not sure about your suggestion regarding C-Max, I think it was hurt by Ford restating fuel economy. With regards to rising Transit Connect sales, I suspect that TC production will eventually join Transit at Kansas City Edited January 13, 2016 by jpd80
jpd80
LOL, how about the return of the Excursion but this time with alloy body and the 6.7 V8 diesel... Take the outrageous further and offer a Lincoln Canyonero.......
sullynd
I think TC could end up at OAC. If (and I think it's a big if) Explorer/Aviator go RWD/SUV route they could go three row Edge/MKX to backfill. What if the dedicated electric is a CUV? probowler
It would be pretty disappointing at this stage if it turned out the Bronco running,or were false, or cancelled. The whole "new nameplate" thing is confusing

akirby
Not that confusing. New nameplate means a new product or an existing product with a new name. As opposed to a new version of an existing vehicle with the same name.

The cases where Expedition isn't good enough and an Excursion is required is a very very tiny segment IMO.

fordmantpw
Not that confusing. New nameplate means a new product or an existing product with a new name. But is it referring to new in the US, or new to Ford? Everest would be new to US, but not to Ford.

mackinaw
I thought he said new to the US. The Detroit News article isn't clear on that. All it says is that Ford will be adding four SUV's to the Ford and Lincoln lineup in a "few years."
Deanh
maybe, just maybe one is Raptor based........hmmmmm, remember they were also going to release 12 sports oriented vehicles as well.....maybe lop off two doors?... rmc523
maybe, just maybe one is Raptor based........hmmmmm, remember they were also going to release 12 sports oriented vehicles as well..... Would that not essentially be a "Raptorized" Expedition?

fordmantpw
But he said Raptor-based. True. I was thinking more Raptor-idea-based, not the actual Raptor.
bzcat
The Detroit News article isn't clear on that. All it says is that Ford will be adding four SUV's to the Ford and Lincoln lineup in a "few years." I don't think the US or worldwide distinction is that meaningful. The only US-only vehicles in the Ford portfolio are F-series based and we know Ford ain't adding "new nameplate" on that platform (i.e. Expedition and Navigator are not "new nameplate" and Excursion is not coming back no matter how much some people want it). So 4 new SUVs makes must address the 4 segments that Ford is currently missing a viable competitor. And these are the 4 segments that Ford is currently missing in action: 1. B-segment - EcoSport is really A-segment so I suspect one of the new nameplate is a replacement for EcoSport outside India and South America. Something similar in size to Jeep Renegade, Chevy Trax, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, Fiat 500X, Mini Countryman etc. around 4.2 meters. EcoSport will probably live on as A-segment (under 4 meters) SUV in India and South America. 2. C-segment short - Something based on the next generation Focus or C-Max hatchback. 3. Midsize 4x4 - Yes, Ford has Everest overseas, which is like a Toyota 4Runner or Prado competitor. But from what we've been lead to believe, Ford is thinking something more like a Wranger competitor so I think Bronco is going to be something different from Everest - same platform but different bodystyle and selling point (i.e. sort of like 4Runner and FJ Cruiser) 4. Luxury 7 seat SUV - Lincoln MKT is not really a viable entry in this segment and we all know it will be replaced by the "Lincoln Explorer".
