alandubrinsky
My 2014 C-Max energy is rusting out and has rust on the frame in the back end on many of the welds (see attached photos). The car was mfg in May-2014 and now has 16k miles Is this covered by the warranty? It looks like bad Steel and terrible welding to begin with. fuzzymoomoo
First, a question. Do you live in the Midwest, or an area where they use a lot of salt on the roads? That could explain why there's seemingly more rust than you might think for a 2 year old car. That doesn't look too unusual IMO, and could hardly be defined as "rusting out". alandubrinsky
This is my first American car in 30 years and none of the frames of my Honda's ever looked like that!!! even beyond 10 years old. This C-max was originally from Trenton, MI but had only spent one winter in MI then moved South. I live in Atlanta, GA. And yes, this is considered rusting out. The rust starts on the inside...when you see if visibly it usually has rusted through. .
twintornados
What did your dealer say? Did you buy the car new?
akirby
So you're just assuming it rusted through? Unless you can stick a screwdriver through it I would guess it's just surface rust. Even one Michigan winter without proper maintenance can cause some surface rust. That can be fixed with Xtend or other rust treatment. fordtech1
I'm with you as far as not liking the surface rust. However, that looks normal for a northern vehicle. Vehicles from auction that were from northern climates look like this. It's on all manufacturers. I see it on used cars.
theDuff
I work in the Midwest. This is what our cars look like regardless of manufacturer.
hybridbear
Is this covered by the warranty? What does your dealer say about this?
akirby
The warranty only covers rust-through not surface rust.

theoldwizard
Spray the rusty spots with Fluid Film. Repeat every 6-18 months,
