02MustangGT
Not disagreeing with you JPD. But IMO, just because Ford trademarks Model E does not mean it will be applied to a new vehicle. And who knows, it's not like every word that Ford releases to the media comes to fruition. Wait and see.

02MustangGT
Yes trademark rights expire after 10 years. Of course trademarks can be renewed at any time prior to expiration. Seriously, why are we even discussing trademark rights. The point is, what Ford says is not what Ford always delivers.
jpd80
The name Model E has also been mentioned by Ford, they fought a short battle with Tesla over it so is strategically important to them..... So possibly, we'll see Model E, a small EV Utility coming from the soon to be built plant right next to next to FRAP and a new, larger Escape that includes hybrid / PHEV (energi) version, presumably replacing the C-Max. jpd80
and yes, 02MustangGT you're absolutely right to be skeptical the way that Ford keeps changing plans... I might be reading this wrong but it looks like small EV Utility from Flat Rock and a new larger Escape with hybrid/ energi models
akirby
I don't think a slightly larger Escape would be able to achieve a 300 mile range - that's why I said it would be smaller. But it's possible.

Jqa1824
They haven't hinted at it all. But I think it would help them compete with the "small premium" products like the CLA, etc...butvwkth dknething different.

Model E might just be a trim level that is applied to the electric versions of regular model lines in place of "Energi" and not a separate model line itself. So, in essence, Escape Model E. sullynd
I think the E needs to be its own model. To some degree the car is part marketing. Anyone remember back at one point it was thought the Model S might be based on the Fusion?
jasonj80
If the model e is Escape sized it will sell. If it is EcoSport/bolt sized it will fail.
blazerdude20
Well, other manufacturers continue to expand their hybrid offerings, and in this segment too (Toyota with the Rav-4 hybrid for example). Regardless, it'd be a mistake to leave Escape out of whatever path they take regarding hybridization or electrification in order to artificially prop up Model E like they did with C-Max. The Nissan Rogue also has a Hybrid option now. The RAV4 has it right, offer AWD on the hybrid. ?

If Ford can pull off a 300 mile range Escape CUV, all bets are off in the electric marketplace IMO. Why wouldn't Ford just do plug in hybrid? Its not that much different then a regular one. Anyways...has Ford even broken ground at Flat Rock yet with the expansion that is going on there? As for the Model E...the expectation of it was it was going to be a family of small cars/CUV's...who knows what the deal is with that now with all the changes that Ford has been going through. I'm not sure if its really worth building a sub-brand like Prius now with gas prices being so cheap and CUV/Truck sales making up 60% plus of the market. Otherway to look at this is they can market the Model E name plate attached to current products for self driving and electric cars.

Lets hope it doesn't suffer the fate of the last marketing attempt Ford did with a model that began with the letter "E"

I think Lincoln needs it.....and electrified (or at least hybridized) models across the range.
bzcat
Model E and Escape Energi are two different things. Model E is the "catch all" name for the new EV platform Ford is working on. It will be build in Flat Rock and has a different architecture than C3 (or whatever the new Focus platform is supposed to be called). Model E as the name implies, will be an EV. It will probably end up being somewhat flexible from B-segment up to CD but the bulk of the volume is probably a small C-utility in the size of current C-Max. The Escape PHEV mule could point to it being offered on the Escape... or simply a drivetrain mule for all future C3 PHEV. It's probably too early to tell. Deanh
I was under the presumption the E platform was somewhat "Tesla like " in that it was a flat and flexible platform that could be widened or lengthened to fit various chassis applications....

Deanh
would make too much sense Harley Lover....an adaptable electrified chassis....we shall see, but imagine having a common chassis serving several vehicles of different sizes....talk about spreading costs.... I would anticipate that "C3" and Model E are close cousins - both having proper packaging for batteries and electrification that is currently lacking in all forms of C1. While the two platforms will indeed be different, we can expect that what ever can be shared will be shared to maximize cost savings...
