MKX With New Lincoln Grill Undercover

I don't see why that would be.

It looks pretty outdated next to Continental, MKZ and Navigator. My feeling is they need to change a lot faster than even 10 years ago. People want the latest and not willing to wait a couple of years. Cell phones are a good example of this.

A slightly reshaped sacrifice panel and new taillight assembly would do the trick.. the hardpoints could stay as is.

They gave this turd a new front clip for it's last model year (2003)...

Granted the styling isn't for everyone, but I liked those cars and I wouldn't say it was a turd. If you look up Escorts on ebay, they are almost always this car and they have 200,000 miles and still selling for 3 to 5 thousand dollars. I doubt you'll see the current Focus or Fiesta at all on ebay after 16+ years.

I'd hardly call an all new for 2016 design "outdated." Nor do I consider the entire lineup getting new faces within 2 years slow. When have we ever seen such a changeover of the entire lineup in such a short timeframe? From Lincoln or other brands.

the 2 doors were notorious for the rocker panels to rust away. My wife had one that became so bad that it wasn't even safe to put on a lift to fully examine how bad it really was.

She later somehow managed to trade it in for $250 and got a Pontiac G5. God I hated both of those cars.

The 4 door, those were much better. My first car. Great little thing. Traded it for my Explorer sport because I needed the room in the back for beer orders (I was working for a Budweiser distributor at the time)

I don't think it's that long. MKZ and Conti were done for the 2017MY. By the 2019MY, the split wing will be replaced by the Conti's grille in everything but MKT, which is a dead man walking anyway. I don't see how that's snails pace.

Sorry, I'm just a little impatient now that I see how much better the Conti front is.

I realize that the CD4 MKX has only been on sale since 2015 as a 2016 YM but even then,

Ford / Lincoln would have known that a styling change was coming.

Similarly, MKC was released in 2014 as a 2015 YM and after two or three years on the market,

Ford / Lincoln should be in a position to do the front end change.

If anything, MKC should precede MKX in getting the Continental grille.

Well we've seen both spied now.

If we hadn't seen either, you could get concerned, but it's clear they're both being replaced within a year.

It seemed OK until it had 3 siblings with new faces. Now, it appears to be in a different generation. I actually like the MKX look, but it no longer looks fresh. With such fierce competition these days, I feel the time between refresh/redesign will be shorter in order to stay alive.

Because it is?

That's the reality of the auto industry. Every brand has that happen. Look at Acura currently. They're in the process of switching to that ugly 5 point thing. Now two models have it, while the others don't. When Mercedes began switching design languages a few years ago, some models had it, some didn't until now the lineup has been turned over completely, and this cycle will happen again and again.

It's not realistic or feasible for the entire lineup to switch at the same time.

And again, by the time the new face comes, it will have gone 2 years of a different face compared to the Conti/MKZ, and 1 year compared to Navigator. I still don't see why that's such a big deal.

As it stands, MKC and MKX (and MKT for that matter) still have the same face, so at least there's no orphan right now. MKC and MKX will both replace the current grille in the same year, not sure how you can complain about that.

The 0(new) - 3(MCE) - 6(new) pattern is fine.

Also, those who don't follow Lincoln products as closely as we do think that my 4 year old MKZ is "the new Lincoln?!" Lincolns don't sell enough for the average mainstream car buyer to know how a 3 year old car differs from a brand new one. It takes non-enthusiasts years to notice a "new" model just as it's about to be refreshed. I have friends who buy a model the last year before a complete redesign or MCE and don't even know their new car will be "old" in less than a year. At least they get a good price on it! Hopefully...

That comment only reiterates my point that another year and a half won't matter.

If we're seeing camoed mules, they're not that far away, 12 months tops

Although China may have an influence on that timing, a unified showroom design language

is always beneficial when you're trying to grow the market and offer something different.........

China is now approaching 45-50% of Lincoln's US sales with MKC, MKZ and MKX making up

the bulk of those sales - unifying the look of those three vehicles is important in that market.

Yup, that's why I'm saying I'm not sure why everyone is so concerned about the timeline of the new grille. We'll see them both revealed at the shows in a few short months (it's crazy that 2017 is already halfway over).

Yeah, so true.

Time seems to be moving fast in the auto industry with lots of updated Ford products coming, F150, Mustang,

New Navigator and Expedition will be on sale in a few months time, a nice distraction through to Christmas

I can't wait to see the early impact of Navigator and expedition leading up to Christmas..

I'm willing to make a small wager that Lincoln will intro its NEXT LOOK *before* everything-current in the showroom (incldg MKT = neither restyled NOR disc) adopts the nacelle+STARmesh &or STARshadow inserts

This is pretty much the point I'm trying to make. If I were to buy an MKX, I would expect large incentives because it hasn't caught up with the rest of the pack.

I really think you're over-exaggerating this.

The incentives won't be any different than any other changeover to a refresh.

As much as we want to see the transition happen quickly, I don't think that actual MKX or MKC buyers are as impatient as us,

both of those vehicles are still selling well in North America without strong incentives and actually spearheading strong sales in China.

Stronger incentives might be needed next year if sales begin to cool ahead of the change
