star-art
I'm finding it difficult to get an answer for this question. 2015+ Limited and Platinum Expeditions have a rather rare option, the Continuously-Controlled Dampening suspension (CCD) that is more commonly found on the Lincoln Navigator. This option is always packaged with huge 22-inch wheels. Unfortunately, getting good snow tires for such large rims is not very practical. Can smaller 20-inch wheels be installed on an Expedition with the CCD suspension option? I'm guessing this would also improve the ride quality. 22-inch wheels come from the factory with 285/45R22 tires while 20-inch wheels come with 275/55R20 tires, so overall diameter is pretty close. . . akirby
Absolutely - that's pretty common on the 20"+ wheels. I'm sure 20s would be fine - just make sure diameter is close and the wheel is large enough to clear the calipers.

According to Ford, the 22 inch wheels are specially tuned to work with this system. Expedition is the first Ford model to offer the Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) System with specially designed and tuned 22-inch polished aluminum wheels. A suite of electronic sensors continuously monitors 46 unique suspension, steering, braking and body motions, processing data hundreds of times per second. The damping system responds in milliseconds to help keep you confidently in control. Choose from three settings – comfort, normal or sport – for the performance feel you prefer. CCD is standard on Expedition Platinum and optional on the Limited and King Ranch® models.
MiddKid
I'm hoping that "tuned" doesn't mean required! I'm fully planning on putting 20" snow tires on my 2018 Platinum when it arrives this fall!
akirby
Definitely not required. I think the idea is that the CCD suspension tuning was done with those wheels and 20s might react differently due to different weight, etc. I doubt the difference would be noticeable in normal driving (if there is a difference). Dlcorbett
If anything the suspension would wrk better as the dampers wont have to work as hard. Ford should offer the ccd as an option with the 20s as well, i bet it would ride better than any other suv with the 20s, the 22s already ride very well but 22s weight can only be worked so well. Are the wheels or tires under more stress under certain settings?
patlac69
Just bought a 2017 Expedition with 22inches wheels and ccd suspension. Did someone finally tried another wheel size and tell us how it went? I am in winter tire purchasing mode and would like to know if I can put 20 inches with that suspension. Thanks. RC Fan
We put 18s on our Platinum with Nokian Hakkapelitta LT 275/65 R18. I did the tire/wheel size comparo on 1010Tires.com—we are approximately .07 % off of the OEM setup.
