rperez817
Ford is the best and Lincoln third best U.S. brand for initial quality (first 90 days of ownership). Jaguar and Land Rover are at the bottom. http://www.jdpower.com/sites/default/files/2018086_u.s._iqs_.pdf

akirby
I think this is far more about the dealers than the mfrs. Look at the top 3 vs. the bottom 2. It's all about dealer prep and how much they catch/correct before delivery as much as anything else. Never been a big fan of this statistic. Also, look at the difference between Hyundai (3rd place) and Volvo (30th place - 3rd from bottom). 0.74 problems per vehicle vs. 1.22 problems per vehicle. Those both round to 1 problem per vehicle. Whether you have one problem or two problems on a new vehicle it's most likely one dealer visit either way.
SoonerLS
The transition away from MFT/MLT have likely helped numbers a bunch. If it weren't for the flakiness of Sync, I wouldn't have much at all to complain about regarding my truck.
akirby
I've had sync 3 in the MKX for 2+ years and in my truck for 4 months. It's been almost flawless. Sirius keeps updating but that's not a sync 3 issue I don't think. I think I had to do a hard reboot one time. It works great. I'm sure people still have problems pairing their phones but that's usually a phone problem. The wi-fi updates don't work yet but that's a minor issue since you can still just use a usb stick. Sirius updating has nothing to do with SYNC 3, as I know it updates semi-regularly on my Flex with the original SYNC system too. Where do you go for updates for SYNC? Is it still the syncmyride site? or is it something else now?

I wish JLR would buy a license to use SYNC 3 from Ford. The JLR InControl system sucks.

Sync3 is so much better than the Sync in my truck that it's not even funny. I've had the opportunity to use it in my folks' Flex, and it's light years beyond what I have. Its light years ahead and what MFT should have been if the hardware wasnt such a disaster and Microsoft wasnt totally inept. My older Focus has SYNC gen1 and I hate it too. freezing and rebooting every few days, voice commands not working properly no matter how clearly I speak. Its awful. Has been ever since I bought that car Play album 2112 Sync: ....... Play album two thousand one hundred twelve Sync: playing album 2112 Thanks bitch ? fordmantpw
I've been impressed with Sync 3 in my truck. The only issue I have is with AppLink (sometimes). Trying to use Waze and Pandora through AppLink will occasionally cause 1 or both not to work. It's not a huge deal though. With the next version of iOS supporting Waze and GMaps through CarPlay, I'll likely use that more with the next iOS. I just hope they fix it so I don't have to lose the outside temp on the display with CarPlay...
akirby
MFT wasn't Microsoft. The original Sync was much better than the dumpster fire that was MFT. Correct. The underlying sync software wasn't a problem. MFT was written by Bsquare - a group of former Microsoft employees. Ford assumed they knew what they were doing and mismanaged the contract - they did not have a backup plan for MFT launching with the 2011 Edge in fall 2010. At one time (after production) someone noted there were 1500 bugs reported internally. But they had no choice but to release it - delaying the 2011 Edge wasn't feasible - and try to fix it quickly. But the code was so bad it took them about 2 years to really stabilize it and even then it wasn't perfect. That's when they decided to scrap it and start over which led to sync 3. The MFT software problems were made worse by the terrible APIM hardware. Notice sync 3 was not tied to any brand new vehicles - some even launched with MFT and switched to sync 3 later like the 2015 Edge. At least they learned that lesson. Now they just need to let you use the car's nav system if you want.
akirby
The new larger screens are being designed to do just that - allow you to use carplay or AA but still have access to other functions.
fuzzymoomoo
Ive yet to try AppLink. I really like CarPlay integration though. Much more user friendly.
fordmantpw
I like the CarPlay integration if it didn't completely take over the screen. The apps I use through it, including Siri, work really well.
akirby
I use Siri eyes free without Carplay. Mainly to send text messages by voice. Works great. Just hold the voice button for 3 seconds and you're connected to Siri instead of sync 3.

I dont understand why everyone seems to have a problem with that. Its easy enough to switch back to the sync screen.
fuzzymoomoo
Siri has a hard time understanding what I say apparently, or maybe it hasnt learned my speech patterns since Ive only been using it for about 2 months and never prior to the new car
akirby
With most voice recognition I’ve found talking a little faster rather than slower and at a normal volume works better than talking slower or raising your voice.
