5W-30 oil in 1.5L Ecoboost?

Recommended Posts

Owners manual on my new 2018 Fusion SE indicates that the oil for my 1.5L EB is 5w-20.

I notice the 2.0L and larger EB's call for 5w-30.

Does/would it hurt to put in 5w-30 oil in my 1.5L EB?

If they specify 5W-30 for all the other ecoboosts but 5W-20 for this one they must have had a good reason.  If you use 5W-30 and have an engine problem under warranty they might not cover the repair.

Hi Atlee.  What akirby stated.  Use the proper, manufacturer specified oil.

Good luck.

Old thread, but yes, the viscosity recommended is critical for proper cam phaser operation, etc.
