Shudder at low speeds

I picked up my truck 5 days ago and I am over the moon happy. I ordered a 4X2 Oxford White SuperCrew Lariat, spray in bed liner ( I really like the Ford logo on the back of the cab!) with the locking rear differential and the 501a package. I’ve been getting some thumbs up from other drivers.

I’ve noticed a shudder at low speeds. It almost feels like a fuel filter or injector clog. It’s feels like the front end is shaking. I’m not sure if this is normal as I have not driven a truck or any type of rear wheel drive vehicle in decades. I knew the ride would feel different from the Japanese cars and SUVs I have owned so this may just be my hyper awareness of the truck’s nuances. I would appreciate hearing what you folks think. I am now worried about my brand new Ranger. The dealership technician cleared the check engine code but noticed the substantial hesitation. They are not sure how to proceed and have a call into Ford Corporate. I had the truck for 5 days and it’s in the shop with no sign of coming home soon. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

There are several guys posting on dealer message boards about injector codes. Some reporting clearing codes and not finding anything and others report replacing pcm. I suspect ford will come out with a fix soon. Try and be patient I know it’s frustrating. I suspect injector or wiring issue.

I thanked the service writer for the dealership’s help in sorting through the check engine light and throttle hesitation issues. The technician is moving forward cautiously as they figure out how to fix the problem. It’s just a bummer when I’m asked about my week old truck and I have to say it’s in the shop. I want to show it off. Hopefully, the identifying of the fix and getting the parts won’t take too long.

That's always the risk buying a brand new vehicle.  But look at it this way - would you rather have it now and spend a couple of weeks in the shop or wait a year or two to get it?

Good point, I’m glad I got the truck. The family owned dealership I bought it from worked hard to keep me informed after I ordered it until it was delivered. I got a great price from them too. The family dealership that is doing the repairs seems very courteous as well. The truck looks awesome. All in all, there have been a lot of good folks working to get me the truck I want and have it in good working order. I just wish  I was on the road in it making all those non Ranger mid size truck owners jealous.

I saw my first in the wild Ranger at Home Depot a few nights ago.  I gave the driver a thumbs up but he didn't see me.  His wife did though and she was laughing.  Probably happens a lot. 

It was a silver crew cab sport and looked great.

The dealership is still waiting for Ford Corporate to get back to them about the the check engine light fuel injector code. The technician took a couple of the new Rangers on their lot out for a spin to see how the throttle hesitation in my truck car compares to them. The technician said my truck’s throttle hesitation is much more pronounced.

I wonder if moisture or bad gas is the problem and if fuel injector cleaner would be worth a try. Any thoughts?

Thank you for your reassuring  insight. It’s a tad unsettling to have my brand new truck in the shop, but your perspective has calmed my nerves down considerably. I’ll wait to hear what the technician has to say next week.

I'm having the same problem. I don't notice any drivability issues, but my CEL is back on at 522 miles. It first came on about 150 miles ago. When I took it in they pulled a #1 injector error code, but the CEL went out on it's own when they were diagnosing it. Anyhow it's back on so it does have a real issue. The only positive is it sounds like others are having the same problem so hopefully Ford is aware and a fix is available.

Did you custom order your truck? I did and it was built around 2/10/19. I was just wondering if there was a batch of bad parts that were used around the same time.
