End of the Line for the Dodge Journey? Journey Loses its V6

The 2020 Dodge Journey sticks with the formula that's served it for its entire 11-year lifespan so far, which is to say nothing more than incremental changes will usher in the new year. The lineup shrinks by half, the SE and GT trims going away, leaving the SE Value and Crossroad trims. The end of the Journey GT means the end of the 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 for the Journey, the two remaining models powered by the 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 172 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque shifting through a four-speed automatic. The SE Value sits on 17-inch steelies with wheel covers and turns the front wheels only, the Crossroad rides on 19-inchers and offers all-wheel drive.

It is at the end of its life, but more likely the result of losing the V6 was not enough people were buying it.  Journey at this stage is pretty much the cheapest CUV of this size you can buy.  Most likely people are not buying these to get all the options (because even optioned out, this thing is way outclassed by pretty much everything out there), but for basic transportation for a family that needs something a bit bigger. ...and since it is so cheap, I'm sure they are also trying not to compete internally with the Durango and Jeeps (since most are shared dealerships). This is a value buy whereas the Jeeps and Durango are seen as a bit more aspirational.

Dodge Journey is popular as government fleet vehicle too. GSA (federal government), state, and municipal.

Journey is like the Ford Taurus of midsize crossovers in the U.S., other than Journey lives on and Taurus is dead. Both are outdated and uncompetitive for retail new car customers, but cheaper than similar models when bought used or in bulk by fleets.

Looks like Journey has outlived its usefulness...surprised that Dodge hasn't moved to a more suitable replacement vehicle.

Specially considering the market how have they not come up with a new product by now? Unless the plan is still to shut down the Dodge brand.

It's known as a "cheap SUV", so if they redesigned it and the price went up, it would lose sales. Just like the last Chysler 200. When a vehicle is known for simply being "cheap" and "huge rebates for low credit score buyers", it gets stuck in a hole.

Dodge fans are having panic attacks about Journey dying slowly. Say "I don't want to spend more $$ on a Jeep, I want a new design Journey". But, still expect huge rebates and "cheap prices" with a "new design". Can't expect car companies to build unprofitable stuff, with huge rebates anymore. No one is "entitled" to a brand new car. Can't afford new car? Get used, save $.

Just like the Flex, it has a dated platform, and it also has (not just like the Flex) an antiquated 4-speed automatic for the base I4 engine, and an underwhelming base powertrain... my friend has a '16 Journey FWD 2.4L and it is noisy inside. The V6, on the other hand, gets good MPG and is plenty powerful (haven't driven one in a Journey, but have driven a (Jeep) Grand Cherokee with the 3.6L Pentastar V6, and it is plenty powerful).
