How to check if a vehicle is a CPO

Recommended Posts

I was interested in purchasing a CPO MKZ and went to a local dealership only to find out that it was sold.  While there I test drove a similar car that they told me would be certified this week.  I would like to confirm the car is a CPO before purchasing (know that it had a 200 point inspection, has a CPO warranty, etc.).  I contacted Carfax (to find out when it would be indicated on their report) and Lincoln (as to when it would show up on their site) and both provided vague answers.  Is there another method of checking that the certification was completed?  Is their some paperwork that the dealer would have showing it was Lincoln Certified?  The last car I bought (also an MKZ) was already certified so this wasn't an issue.  Also assuming that the car is certified and I buy it are the Certified Pre-Owned Upgrade Protect Plans worth it? Generally I never get extended warranties but the dealer's quote seemed reasonable and from what I understand it provides better coverage during the CPO period (more components, etc.) & extends it a couple years.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
