Gurgeh
"...FCA's Dodge brand in eighth place, up 13 spots from last year. The move up was attributed to above-average reliability ratings for the Challenger and Grand Caravan. ... Jake Fisher, senior director of auto testing at Consumer Reports, also noted the Dodge brand hasn't seen redesigns in a while. When automakers redesign vehicles, reliability tends to take a dive until they work out the bugs. Dodge 'is really benefiting from that age,' Fisher said." Letting their product languish was crazy, some have argued. Ha! Crazy like a fox!!

Gurgeh
Ford held even with Ranger and Mustang improving because of the F-150's "minor transmission issues" and Lincoln dropped some do due to initial problems with the Nautilus, also likely transmission issues. Makes the article's final comment strangely perceptive. "To get to the top of the reliability chart Fisher says the answer is for automakers to 'keep refining the system ... don't keep switching gears.' " But sometimes new transmissions are needed! That's extremely short sighted. Sure you can improve quality by not making changes but then nobody buys your product.

And I'm sure Ford made a lot of money on that vehicle, even though its quality was middling at best. 1

Then the reaction to issues is even worse. Google TSB 19-2338.

It's very likely that both Lincoln and Ford will drop dramatically in next year's CR reliability survey.

probowler
Imagine if vehicle bodies were modular, and when you wanted to upgrade the drive parts or interior, you just buy a new underbody, the dealer shop transfers your old body onto the new bottom, and buys/recycles your old frame /engine/etc.
