Assimilator
That took longer than the 48 Hours they hoped for.
coupe3w
What does sold out mean. How many? Tesla has 250,000 of their "trucks" sold.

"Sold out" in this case means the number of reservations for Mustang Mach-E First Edition matched the number of those vehicles planned for production. As mentioned in the Autoblog article from the OP, "sold out" status applies to the U.S. market only, and to First Edition only.

Could be 20, 200, 2,000.....

At least a few Ford executives know the exact number, but they're not telling people outside Ford. ? You make a good point about Ford's deliberate ambiguity here, which suggests that the number is on the low side. Assimilator also makes a good point that reservations for Mustang Mach-E in the U.S. are not being made as quickly as Ford executives hoped. My wife and I are just glad that we got our Mustang Mach-E First Edition reservation confirmed before they "sold out". ANTAUS
Well the benefit with Ford is, they are more experienced as a manufacturer so when they say it's coming out it will (oh well maybe with a hiccup or 2 like Explorer/Aviator)...Whereas Teslas Uglytruck...well, who knows when and if... Twin Turbo
I haven't seen or heard Ford trumpeting the success of Mach E reservations here in the UK. When S550 was launched over here, there were 500 "Champions League" editions available and they opened the ordering up at the start of the 2015 Champion's League football (soccer) game.......by the end of the game (90 minutes) all had been snapped up. Even with the Mustang name and badges, I think a £45k+ electric Ford is going to be a tough sell over here.

Past experience manufacturing automobiles may be helpful from an operational standpoint. But from a future strategy standpoint, experience manufacturing and selling non-autonomous, ICE powered vehicles is undesirable baggage from an era that's coming to a close. Manufacturing, distribution and service doesn’t change. Tesla’s model works great for a startup at low volume but it doesn’t scale. Economies of scale and 100 years experience is a big advantage for volume manufacturing.
