rmc523
I kept meaning to post this today and kept getting side tracked. I wonder if we'll see this or if it's just one of those patents to patent and isn't used.
HotRunrGuy
I put it up earlier today in the Super-Duty forum, since the article kinda leaned that way,,,,, HRG

MY93SHO
Why would Ford patent ZF's rear steer?
wildosvt
Couldn't ZF be developing it for Ford? Prior to this they sold it for car applications. From the article- " The Drive points out that German automotive supplier ZF used a Ford F-150 as a test bed to try out its own four-wheel steering setup for trucks, but we can't say if the two systems are related." Joe771476
One difference is that GM's system had the wheels on both axles steering in the same direction for lane changes at speeds above something like 20 MPH. For example, all wheels would turn to the right to go into the right lane. Only at low speeds would the wheels turn counter to each other like in this video....front wheels to left, right wheels to the right, minimizing turning circle. I notice that the rear wheels do not turn as sharply because if they did, I think you'd see some rollovers. Somehow I don't think a lot of drivers could handle the different handling characteristics and the first accident would generate a lawsuit. tbone
It could be a cool option, as long as it doesn’t change the aesthetics of the truck like the GM design did. I hated the way that truck looked.
Mark A
my daughter/son in law have an older GM with this feature. They really like it.
