I mean, being relatively cheap to develop different C2 cars, shouldn't Ford cover more body styles and possible attract different consumers? It's certainly more viable if you can build multiple versions on the same platform in the same plant with a lot of shared parts.
Fordowner
Bottom line the EcoSport is not an adequate replacement for the Fiesta AND Focus and Ford is losing buyers - yea starter cars to bring in future upgrade sales many frown upon because brand loyalty is said to not be a trait of the younger generation and the Focus and Fiesta they say aren't profitable. Still It's too bad Ford didn't: 1. continue the Focus for a few more years 2. Sell the updated European Fiesta here for the past few years (the current/departing Fiesta's interior is so old It looks like it should have a cassette tape slot in the radio) or 3. Line up a better or another small CUV option. Hopefully the Baby Bronco and New Ecosport will fill the void. 630land
Too bad they didn't switch the transmissions to more reliable versions in Focus/Fiesta years ago, then could still be viable.

Its not really that its just that the EcoSport isn't cheap enough and its not good enough for its price range its in. The primary reason the Focus and Fiesta aren't still around is they couldn't make money at the price points they where designed for-Ford was planning on premium pricing for them and as they aged and well other issues, they couldn't make $$$ on them. At least with a Entry level FWD Crossover/High riding Hatchback you can design it "cheap"-Offer one powertrain type and keep options limited-if the Customer wants something more, they can move up to what an improved Ecosport offers and so on. The baby Bronco is going to command Premium pricing-I'd expect it to start north of $26-27K over the $24K the Escape starts at. Focus and Fiesta couldn't make money because they were made by Ford.
