This very well should become the halo for the entire company. A testament to what American ingenuity can accomplish when fully believed in.

Based on the team that's working on this and the resources they've been given, this will be a gamechanger.

That is great to hear. And more reason to believe that the 2020s decade will mark the renaissance of American luxury car brands. Tesla + Lincoln/Rivian + Cadillac together is going to give the European and Asian brands a major assault in the coming years.

I’m still of the option that the T-bird influenced the S197 Mustang more then people want to admit. Yes the S197 Mustang is it’s own bespoke platform, but that platform had more roots to the T-bird then the LS.

That was discussed with HTT a few years ago.  They started with DEW98 but by the time they finished all that remained was the floor pan and fuel pumps.

I would take Cadillac out of that discussion. They still can't figure out what the hell they are.

It seems that European and Asian counterparts will still have more international presence, which is a shame for the American brands and consumers worldwide.

That's true. International markets are a challenge for sure.

On the positive side, all 3 of the American luxury brands (Lincoln, Cadillac, Tesla) are undergoing expansion in China. And Tesla is growing fast in the European market. In December 2019, Tesla Model 3 was the 3rd best selling car in Europe. Maybe as Lincoln and Cadillac improve their reputation in the U.S. and China with their new electrified vehicle lineups, they'll eventually be able to crack the European market too.

Hopefully. Maybe there's a chance of that happening, as some German brands do not seem too advanced on flexible EV-oriented platforms (maybe only VW/Audi as notable exception). [As far as I know the others are just electrifying ICE platforms and results are not extremely exciting, e.g. the i3]

PS: Not very realistic but would love to see these brands on Brazilian streets. Ford needs a shake up here before that, though...

Someone on another forum I’m on brought this up, and I was surprised it hadn’t occurred to me before.

A big issue Tesla has had with its growth is servicing vehicles as their sales grew.

What will Rivian do?

With Ford (or at least Lincoln) offering a Rivian based vehicle, could they just outsource service to Ford?

Tesla says they cannot meet the demand for the Cybertruck for 3-4 years which means there is a lot of pent up demand for an electric truck. Tesla says they are manufacturing constrained by battery production. They say they do not have enough to supply the 3 and the Y plus either the semi or Cybertruck. If Tesla cannot keep with the battery demand and is rapidly expanding its battery production, and they are right about the pent up demand for an electric truck how will Ford keep up with batteries if the Rivan demand is very high? Ford says only 50K Mach E's will be built the first year (because of demand or battery supply??).

Ford says they will not get into the battery manufacturing business and both the Mercedes and BMW BEVs were/are delayed due to battery supply. Pretty obvious battery manufacturers currently cannot keep up. VW has stated they will build their own and 1/4 of all the cars they sell in 2025 will be electric. No question VW is all in, because of "dieselgate".

So what is going on at Ford? Are they serious or are BEVs just a line extension? Too early to tell or does someone know?

Battery supply is the new oil, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if

OPEC started investing heavily in battery production to cover

any future losses from reduced sales of oil products.

Fords roll out of BEVs is deliberate and governed by battery supply

butbunlike Tesla it also has strong profits from ICE sales to carry it through.
