Powertrains of course represent the main advantage of BEV when it comes to simplifying manufacturing. The consulting company AlixPartners calculated it takes 40% fewer hours to assemble an electric motor and battery than a traditional internal-combustion engine and transmission. But paint, bodywork and final assembly are virtually identical. Overall you're not saving very much in manufacturing time or costs.
silvrsvt
Not sure how the numbers are determined. but ICE powertrains come assembled already when they come into an assembly plant and I'm assuming electric motors are also-but the Tesla factory does most of its work at the factory vs depending on an external factory, so any "savings" would be negated?
