2022 Ford Transit Electric announcement

Recommended Posts

Ford is responding to customer demand for all electric trucks and vans. They announced BEV F-150 last year, today they put out a press release for 2022 BEV Transit Van for U.S. and Canada markets. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2020/03/03/ford-to-offer-all-electric-transit.html

The all-electric Ford Transit will offer uncompromised cargo capacity and the power of choice with a variety of chassis options, including cargo van, cutaway and chassis cab, plus three roof heights and three body lengths. Customers will have the full backing of the company’s massive electric vehicle-certified dealer network, more than 730 commercial vehicle centers across the U.S. and Canada, and access to Ford’s charging network – North America’s largest public charging network***.

Fleet operators can expect advantages beyond just eliminating trips to the gas station. All-electric powertrains mean significantly less scheduled maintenance than internal combustion engines, plus lower operating costs. Electric vehicle fleets may benefit from federal, state and local electric vehicle tax incentives, access to high-occupancy vehicle lanes and free parking. Electric vehicles can operate where vans with internal combustion engines cannot, including indoors, in environments with limited ventilation, and at night in areas with restrictive noise ordinances.

Further details about the all-electric Ford Transit and its features will be revealed later.

the EV platform is absolutely perfect for delivery purposes barring the high mileage routes....THIS is exactly how they should be utilized

A BEV that will also be sold as fleet vehicles.  Somebody’s head is going to explode.

Mine....Ive been asked by a multitude of municipalities as they are completely wrapped up in the Green image projected by BEVs etc...even though they are significantly more expensive...

Initial purchase price of BEV commercial van is more than a gasoline or diesel van, but operating costs and total cost of ownership or lease will be lower.

I'd say a more pressing issue is getting the GVWR of the Transit up to par with the E-Series so that we can finally be done with the E-Series but this should sell well if done correctly.  The only work van worth buying is the Transit and this should solidify that position.

They can just call it Transit Electric. They should do a short comedy video to market the new electric Transit with Jim Farley talking to two young teenagers about the time where 'I lived in an electric Transit van... DOWN BY THE RIVER!!' ?

eventually...and that can take a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time, much like comparing a Diesel to a gas ICE. Its more of a political statement than potential savings after 10 or so years...Municipalities don't put huge miles on their vehicles...Ive seen service trucks 10 years old yet to hit 15000 miles....so...in that case BEVS will NOT be cheaper at all.

Overriding the negatives, fleets and municipalities are under pressure to be the face of change and go green with BEVs

very true....the LA Police Dept bought a fleet of 40 or so BMW i3 BEVS....all are sitting gathering dust basically, all on the tax payers dime...but if they hadn't of spent the money their budget for the next year would have been cut back accordingly....

Sounds like a lack of proper training for LAPD employees about BEV usage. Also corruption in the LA city government too.
