Compact truck shown to dealers

No, I kind of agree. I just think there might be a crowd of people who scoff at the idea of calling such a truck an F-series. They already won't like it because it's FWD and Unibody.

You make a good point but consider this: there's really nothing like that on the market today so why not give it a unique (and new) name?

Funny story about the Transit. I had a Fedex delivery a few months ago and the delivery van was a 2WD Transit. The driver drove off the edge of my driveway right in front of my garage where there is an almost two foot drop-off. Needless to say, with one rear wheel in the air he wasn't moving. There was just enough room to get my F-150 out of the garage and pull him back onto level ground. Turns out he a trainee with him. When I asked if he had learned anything he said "Yeah, don't drive into the ditch!". I also have a security camera in a tree which was right in front of their windshield. We all had a good laugh over that one.

On the trucklet name, I think it kinda depends what your target market is. If it's commercial fleet sales then Courier makes a lot of sense. If not then Ranchero or something entirely new would be fine. The 60-65 Falcon Ranchero was probably about the same size.

How much demand is there for a full size van to be used as a passenger vehicle? Its been 40+ years since vans where cool last.

um...we sell a $hitload of Transit passenger vans....and now theres AWD....

Family of 6 or more  going on a vacation.  Expedition works, but a nice full sized passenger van would be better !

RMC hit my point-its not like people are buying these things for the most part as minivan/SUV replacements. I get there is a need for passenger vans, but theoldwizards requests seem more like a luxury type vehicle to travel long distances in.

I would not call a the old Chateau Club Wagon a "luxury" vehicle.  It just had 4 DECENT (US) adult sized seats !  The aftermarket conversion vans are WAY MORE EXPENSIVE !

Here is our family of 8 hauler. We had an Expedition and an E350 quigley. I agree the van is superior to the suv, at least for our family.

I'm guessing you have 2 or 3 bench seats.  Not the most comfortable for long trips and if you have a couple of high school football player in your brood you are not going to put more than 2 of them on that 3 person bench.

Concur on the van being superior to a full sized SUV.  When my daughter's family of 6 goes on vacation, they can barely fit their luggage in the back of their Expedition MAX.

If I had to choose between these 2, I'd pick Ranchero. To me, Courier has an import ring to it.

And thank you Ford.  Not all home owners need a F150 for small clean-ups and home improvement tasks.  Please, a 2 door AWD variant.

and please,  configure the box so a 4'x8' sheet of plywood or drywall can be brought home, even if it's hanging out the back.

Farther away than Mexico though. GM especially gets tons of crap for building so many cars in China and bringing them here.

The compact Ford pickup is scheduled to be built at Hermosillo.

The only vehicle I'm aware of  that GM imports from China is the Buick Envision....

Yeah, the CT6 PHEV came from China too, but that ended a while ago.

Thanks, that slipped my mind but really, had precious little exposure to China trade war.

The big sneaky they pulled was setting up new products out of Mexico and culling car

plants in USA.

Hilarious that when Mr Trump  was chiding Ford for thinking of moving MKC to Mexico while GM was planning lots of production from there to replace US car production.....

No doubt that’s now an alternate fact......

Ranchero makes even more sense it is Spanish and would be built in Mexico.

Ford would also be exporting it into Latin America like Brazil and Argentina.

Also, since Ford Oz is engineering, it will likely be built in Thailand as well.

I have been reliably told that Australia is not developing the compact pickup, it’s home room for BOF T6 and some Chinese vehicles. This looks more like transit connect home room may be doing the work.

It mule was spotted in Australia a while ago doing some testing but agreed that it doesn't mean FoA is working on it. P758 feels more like a project driven by the Americas product team than Europe or Asia/Australia.

My take is that there is basically a trio of "cheap" C2 vehicle programs: P758, Escort sedan, CX758/Territory i.e. a truck, a car, and a utility. P758 is emerging early because it was spun off Transit Connect program when it was supposed to be just an alternate bodystyle of Transit Connect.

Australia and Shanghai are probably more likely to be working on Escort and Territory than P758.
