Sure they did - a C2 Edge.

I don't think it'll be square back.

There is a C2 Edge for China, which is what this thread is about. There is also a midsize C2 CUV coming for the US but Ford have apparently promised the dealers it will replace the Fusion not Edge. I remain skeptical that Ford will develop two midsize 5 seat C2 CUV for US market but we will see what comes out of the Oakville contract negotiation.

edit: Looks like I'm right... Oakville contract doesn't mention new Edge. They will get next gen EVs in 2025. CD4 Edge will continue probably with another facelift.

I agree with you at most the edge and nautilus may receive one more exterior refresh then that’s it by the looks of things.

It's about the same size as the current 7 seat Edge.

L x W x H // WB

Edge 4,878mm x 1,925mm x 1,734mm // 2,850mm

Equator 4,905mm x 1,930mm x 1,755mm // 2,865mm

Everest 4,892mm x 1,862mm x 1,837mm // 2,850mm

Explorer 5,075mm x 2,004mm x 1,778mm // 3,025mm

In the filing with Chinese Govt, Ford said the engine is "Ecoboost 4G20D6L" and the body is "non-structural loading" (i.e. Chinese for body on frame). This however, seems to contradict the spy photo which shows transverse engine unibody so it is probably not correct.

Anyway, if the use of Mitsubishi 4G engine is correct, then this is probably the replacement for Yusheng S350, which currently uses Mitsubishi 4G gas and Ford Puma diesel engines.

So basically:

Territory --> Yusheng S330

Equator --> Yusheng S350

Looks like Ford is shutting down the Yusheng brand.

They did get rid of S330 which was the better selling Yusheng model.

Maybe S350 will stick around because it is basically the SUV version of JMC Yuhu pickup. I did notice it got the JMC logo back on the front in the facelift so I think it is a pivot of some sort. When Ford launched S350 in 2015 they went to great length to say it is a Yusheng, not a JMC. But now it has JMC logo front and center so you tell me... ?

I think Yusheng was suppose to be the "sub-brand".

I find it hard to believe that this in BOF for the Everest already fits that role. The Yuhu/S350 ride on a version of T6 themselves.

It’s a great implementation of the split light look

I noticed a brow look on the headlights and tail lights.

I'm not a fan of the greenhouse-looks generic. The front end I'm not fond of but the back looks nice.

Ford needs a new design language going forward...its bland city IMO for most of their products.

Yuesheng was promoted as the passenger vehicle brand for JMC.

So I'm wondering if the platform used for Equator is clever reuse of older Everest engineering modules

combined with local Chinese engine, gearboxes and electrical systems first seen in Yuesheng, but now

presented as Equator. You'd never use this in Europe or America as is but it might serve as inspiration

for what can be done with clever use of already available engineering modules and the will to try.

I do agree a lot of the products are nice but boring looking.

And no I don't want origami styling with creases everywhere, a la Lexus and Hyundai.

The underhood spy photo shows transverse engine which means it is not related to Yusheng S350 or Everest, which are both body on frame with longitude engine and RWD.

It's kind of hard to make out the details but the engine compartment looks fairly similar to C2: note the generally identical placement of air intake, battery, coolant expansion tank, the bump out on the firewall under the left wiper mount etc. It's by no means conclusive but I suspect Equator is mostly C2.

Thanks for the info bzcat, I suspect it’s a localised variation of C2 architecture using Chinese suppliers and parts. It’s a good example of what’s possible when Ford looks beyond the usual product envelope of cars and utilities. Oh for something like that at Oakville.

It's a pity  that China as an established LHD production hub cant be leveraged to deliver affordable,

low volume RHD products to places like Australia, New Zealand & South Africa,.

Adding RHD production would go a long way towards solving product supply and profitability issues

in those countries. A seven seater Edge (Endura) would be a better fit in those markets than the now

defuncti imported North America hatchbackck version.

Well, that is what Thailand and India were supposed to do... except Ford never got the right product. EcoSport was too small and Fiesta was too expensive.

I expect Australia will eventually get the Mahindra based cheap CUVs since they are RHD. Ford already said it will sell them in RHD Africa.

Between China and India, looks like Ford will soon have a collection of reasonable line up of low cost vehicles designed for emerging markets:

Escort

Mahindra XUV 300 based EcoSport replacement

Territory

Mahindro XUV 500 based Escape size CUV

Equator

Add in JMC Boadian and Yuhu pickups which can be rebadged as Ford if necessary...

Production Equator leaked... this is the first second Ford product worldwide after the facelift Edge to feature the new "great wall of screen" interior which is the new interior design language for Ford.

No official press release yet but Chinese websites have confirmed it is unibody (so either CD4 or C2) with Mitsubishi 4G engine. This is a Jiangling Ford product but positioned against to Chang'an Ford Edge, but likely with lower price tag.

Yeah that color is werid

I think these photos had bad lighting and maybe too compressed/over processed. Hard to tell exactly what the interior color looks like without studio lighting and using bootlegged Chinese photoshop. But the interior design overall looks pretty good.
