The interior is nice, if not busy with that weird reddish brown color. I agree. Get rid of that weird color on the interior and slope the roofline, and make the back not so upright, and it will look pretty dang good. bzcat
Comprehensive test drive: https://www.autohome.com.cn/drive/202103/1127108-all.html?pvareaid=3311702#p1 Goes into a lot of details, including claims that the vehicle was designed by Ford's APAC engineering center in Australia. Google translate indicates the transmission is a 6 speed DCT supplied by SAIC which I was not expecting. Article also mentions at low speed it shifts slowly but smoothly but the 2.0T engine really wakes up at high speed. The suspension is soft and comfortable like "sailing a boat". Overall impression seems very positive. Pricing will be announced on Mar 28 when it goes on sale. Edited March 17, 2021 by bzcat

Has to be wet clutch. Dry clutch wouldn’t take the torque of a 2.0T.

Ford has had wet clutch DCTs in Europe for at least a decade - paired with Diesel engines.

So Equator has the Borgwarner DCT, just manufactured by the BW-SAIC joint venture. I have to wonder if Ford is doing this as a deliberate strategy or because it is capacity constrained on its own drivetrain. Mitsubishi 4G20 engine and this BW-SAIC 6 speed DCT are both really outdated tech. It would seem that Ford should be using its own 2.0 EB and 8 speed auto but maybe it just can't get enough of either to supply the projected volume.

Or, it's being encouraged to use local engine and transmission to keep costs down and local content high. Perhaps this is the point at which Chinese CD4 Edge starts to become a grandfathered platform for Ford's other Chinese brands to use...... Ford said there will be 7 seats available throughout the range. It's the same on Explorer in China so this is not new either. The 2nd row 2x2 captain chairs cost more than 3 across split bench. Also I don't think this has been mentioned yet but Equator is FWD only. No AWD available. Probably has something to do with the transmission choice is my guess but I don't know for sure. kyle
Great review by this guy and I like the direction they are taking their front end designs and hope they go even further. Seeing some comments from the YouTube video and agree that this definitely has a Korean look with some Mercedes on the side profile.

T-dubz
It’s probably one of the best implementations of the split headlights I’ve seen. I could see that front looking really good on the explorer body.
