What have you guys been doing during CV19 doldrums?

Recommended Posts

I'm going out of my mind. I've got a high fever and it's cabin fever. I just can't get motivated to do anything except stare at my computer screen at things I can't afford...

The only headway I've made is really getting back into playing my guitars and making them like new again. I think I've played more in the last 2 months than the last 5 years put together. Assuming that you guys have your own hobbies and have been doing things that perhaps you just didn't have time for earlier...

For you that still have a job, I sincerely am super happy for you. In my world, everything even remotely connected to the entertainment business is quieter than a sleeping tumbleweed.

So what's everybody been doing? Keeping that Lincoln waxed up?

High fever...have you been tested? Hope you are well soon.

Self isolation here. Lost taste and smell last Tuesday, so being cautious. It started coming back 2 days ago. Maybe 50% right now.

May take the Nav out for a spin later on.

Been retired for last 8+ years.  Take Nautilus out about every 10 days to go grocery shopping.   I ride my electric mountain bike with a dog trailer every day to check up on mom and do the yard work ect...so not a lot of change except shortages at the store.  I do have my parts list made out to convert the BL 21's to 18's.   Will order those wheels and parts when things get back to normal.  Cancelled travel trips obviously but will make up for it later.  Everyone take care of yourselves and family.

I've wanted to get out and ride my bike more than I have but the weather hasn't been a cooperative as I had hoped. It was gorgeous yesterday except for the 40+ mph wind gusts. My legs aren't ready for that yet

In the meantime I've just been spending time with my kids and trying to make sure I don't get this thing since my wife is pregnant with number 3.

You mean you aren't working? I don't leave the house. Roll out of bed and fire up the laptop. Jump on some conference calls, answer a bunch of emails, jump on some servers/switches and now instead of going to the conference room meetings, I have weekly video conferences. That is my day. Not going to lie, I work in my pajamas probably 50% of the time now.  I need to get out more though, starting to get stir crazy.

Once this thing passes, whenever that is, things will really pick up. I am sick of my cooking, watching TV, and anything to do with where I live. When this is over, I know a lot of folks that are going to want to spend on entertainment.  I know I am going to. Hang in there!

I sure hope you're right. I'm hoping everyone will want to get some entertainment but all I get from most people I see is stay the H away from me! Not that I can blame them. Thank God I don't live in NY or any other crazy hotspot! I went to Costco this afternoon. It was like dead. It's always a huge clusterbang so to see it with not even one person in line to pay was so weird. I feel like the Omega Man... (anyone remember that movie?).

From what I knew, here in Oregon we were supposed to be somewhat locked down-stay-the-H-home until April 15th. But I drove by a big casino north of me in Washington (iLani) and they said they were opening back up April 9th. I don't know how they can open, but any venue that has bands needs musicians and sound/light people so the ball will roll for everyone when people get unparanoid and things flatten out. Better safe than sorry though, too many overseas just didn't get it.

It seems so normal now to have a bottle of hand sanitizer in my cup holder. Squirt when I go in somewhere and bigger squirt when I get back in the car. When I do go somewhere by myself, Ive been taking my ELR and going electric. Today we took the Nautilus and I forgot how supple the ride is. I was digging it. Even on 21's... such a great car.

Luckily my wife and I both work from home 4 days a week normally, so this is just BAU for us.

Yard work is starting up, biking season is upon us too. I also mainly work from home so no change there. We get takeout from our favorite restaurants once a week to help keep them afloat. I'm afraid that if this shutdown continues much longer things will be worse than if we just went about our lives with extra precautions.

Careful....someome around here will accuse you of saying you know more than the experts.

Personally I think if we quarantine the high risk individuals, test all restaurant and retail workers and limit the number of people in a business and disinfect common items and areas regularly then we could probably reopen businesses a little sooner.   I think schools, concerts and sporting events are still too risky.   Individual cities and counties would still need to shelter in place and close non essential businesses as outbreaks occur but hopefully they're localized.

However, I understand that not everyone will follow those guidelines and it only takes a few infected individuals to spread it like crazy.   Another month allows time to get medical supplies in place and develop more treatments and to clear most of the currently infected (but maybe not symptomatic).

I agree with your first sentence. The people running those concerts, etc., can't work from home like some people can, however. But any who, not trying to derail this thread...

Took my Navigator out for about an hour drive yesterday. Felt good to get out for a little while. Unfortunately, my anosmia condition is only back to about 50% so I can't enjoy the new car VOC smell quite as much as I'd like lol.

Edit: Schools can work from home we are now learning. This may change things forever.

I get to work, the FD has to roll on.  It's starting to hit our department more each day, a few positive results and even more out on quarantine now.  Fun times.

I put my nice Lincoln in quarantine too, got it back from the dealer oil change on St. Patricks day.  I put the cover on it so it cannot get infected, and no harsh cleaners gonna mess up my Leather.  Man, I miss that car...

That really sucks about your workmates. You don't say what city you're in. It seems like perhaps you're in a hotspot? I wish all your compadres well and thanks for being on the front lines of double danger, fire and bugs - ugh ?

My daughter is on the Front lines too. She's a nurse at an area large hospital. Portland is a fairly large city, not like NY large but large enough to have our share of idiots who won't stay home when they should, that could possibly lead to some real nasty curves upwards. But here's the good news - here, most of the people around ARE doing what they should and staying home and being real careful around others. Her hospital has a floor sectioned off for CV-19 patients so they're ready to do what they need to do. Guess how many people are in there? Zero. That's right there's no one in there at all. There's some cases west of me in the Washington co area but there's very very few cases around me. Those that are testing positive are somewhere, but not around here thank God.

I took a few guitars into a guitar shop to get put up for sale yesterday. Everything is appointment only. The aura of everyone you meet just reeks of "God I hope you aren't going to infect me". I can't blame them, but it sucks. Today, I wanted to buy a special CD player from a HiFi shop and I had to do everything over the phone, then call when I got there, and then they come out and leave it on the dumpster and then dive back in the store like you're a flesh eating zombie. My 95yr old Mom's care facility is locked down like NORAD on DEFCON1.

My department covers 5 towns, including the top 3 on the list of most densely populated cities in the country, according to Wikipedia anyway.  The area covered begins on the west side of the Hudson River in NJ, across from midtown Manhattan.  And sooooo many local residents commute and work in NYC, so the spread came here pretty quickly.  Two more Dept. positive results since my post yesterday.    People really need to stay in, this situation is not bein taken seriously enough by everyone.  Hopefully Portland won't get hit too hard,  if people stock up now and stay put anyway, that way it won't get chaotic and your daughter will be able to handle it like a pro.

Back on track though, everyone just enjoy hanging out at home, whether bored or annoying one another.

This is not vacation time, and a nice day shouldn't involve crowds out at the parks, unfortunately.   That time will come soon enough.

The shelter in place has not been a big deal.   Dont go that much.   Only inconvenience not going to the grocery since not sure

if safe, order online.     So surf the net,  seeing if can find a aviator like,  if lincoln does not start production for awhile my order

may not get picked up and have to find one already built
