Next Gen Focus RS dead

Recommended Posts

I always thought the RS was cool, but preferred the look of the Sedan. An RS 2-door sedan would be a fun little starter car... But I suppose at that point you're better off getting a base mustang with the ecoboost.

What an absolute shit show for the cancellation rational, fucking emission controls on a Focus? I guess Europe only wants the wealthy and elite to drive fun cars. You couldn't pay me to live in that socialist hell-hole.

From what I understand very few RS were actually sold.

Also - a 2 door sedan is a coupe.

touche sir... I still had the sedan image in my head. The focus is probably my favorite compact car from a design aspect, dated as it is. I think it would look great in coupe form.

In the 70's and 80's, auto makers did try to make a distinction between 2 door sedans and coupes, for example the Fairmont. That had a four door, a two door with a sedan like roof, and a sportier two door (which was supposed to be a Thunderbird) which they called a coupe to distinguish it from the more formal two door.

The term coupe is often used loosely as the sporty SUVs are often called coupes when they are actually SUV sedans with four doors.

Well a lot of mfrs are using the term very loosely on 4 door sedans and utilities where the rear slopes down dramatically.   It's stupid and unnecessary.

Did you mean a 2 door version of the 4 door sedan or a 2 door hatchback?

Not sure of the world wide total, but I think Ford was planning on selling 2500 a year at one point of them in the US.

The market for it in the US was fickle and pricing put it in line of a decently equipped Mustang GT

I saw a race between an RS and Mustang GT.  RS blew it out for the first 1/8 mile with AWD.  But then the GT gained steam.  At the line, the Stang wins by a car length.

Personally, I'd rather have an RS because of AWD.  But I'm in the market for neither.  So....

Only ford got the best description of one of these types of cars when they said the Ford 500 "elevated the sedan". But the fact it had a trunk made it closer to a sedan than a BMW x6 or something like that. But the 500 was a sort of CUV/sedan.

I think it's mostly about the rear roofline, not ride height.

No actually its the seating position of the vehicle...Parents had a 2008 Sable and I HATED driving...the driving position was like sitting in a high chair (to give that "SUV-like" feel) which drove me nuts, coming from my Mustang I drove at the time

On the 2010 redesign for the Taurus, the roof was dropped an inch and the seats I think where dropped 2 inches. I had no issues going between my Mustang and SHO when I had them both. The SHO was a little taller, but I didn't feel like I was in a high chair sitting up too high. My wife (who is a foot shorter then me) still has to raise seat up and almost sit on the steering wheel to drive my car.

Correct but that wasn't the point - it was about calling 4 door vehicles "coupes" and that is due to the sloping rear roofline.
