Hi there. Can someone please help? Can a 2020 fusion SE hybrid 2.0 engine be towed on a tow dolly? The manual says it can be flat towed and towed on a car trailer. I thought ALL FWD cars could be towed on a dolly but this isn’t specified. If it can’t be towed on a dolly can someone please recommend a good Rv tow setup to use to tow the Fusion? very much appreciated!

If it is NOT AWD, almost any FWD can be dollied as the front wheels are off the ground. On almost any AWD, dolly towing WILL damage the rear axle's coupler as they were not designed to operate with such a severe difference in front to rear axle speed. The issue with Fusion - it has a very low overhang on the front that may or may not be easy to get on/off the dolly, although there are different dollies available. Have seen some people damage the front facia/cooling module because of it. Test it on your tow rig with the car before you buy it to be sure.

As for flat tow, there are still things that can go wrong. Have seen a lot of folks cause damage to many different kinds of transmissions that were supposedly rated for it.

HI Dave, Your 2020 Fusion Hybrid Owners Manual states that the Fusion Hybrid can be towed with all four wheels on the ground, using "Stay in Neutral Mode" and following some other requiements.

Here is the quote:

"Recreational Towing

Note: Put your climate control system in recirculated air mode to prevent exhaust fumes from entering your vehicle. See Climate Control (page 119). Follow these guidelines if you have a need for recreational (RV) towing. An example of recreational towing would be towing your vehicle behind a motorhome. These guidelines are designed to ensure that your transmission is not damaged.

Your vehicle can be towed with all four wheels on the ground using the Stay in Neutral mode feature, or with all four wheels off the ground using a vehicle transport trailer. If you are using a vehicle transport trailer, follow the instruction specified by the equipment provider. If you tow your vehicle with all four wheels on the ground:

Tow only in the forward direction.

Release the parking brake.

Place the vehicle in Stay in Neutral mode. See Automatic Transmission(page 173).

Do not exceed 70 mph (113 km/h). Note:If the parking brake is applied, a message appears in the information display.

Note: Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes at the beginning of each day, and every six hours or fewer. With the engine running and your foot on the brake, shift into drive (D) and then into reverse (R)before shifting back into neutral (N). Before continuing to tow, you must re-enable Stay in Neutral mode."

You can find this information by looking up "Towing the Vehicle on Four Wheels" in the Index.

Hope this information helps and good luck.
